We came here last May and had a really nice trip. We had decided that we would come here every May for my husband’s birthday. Our trip this year, definitely changed our plans. We will be visiting other resorts in Cabo.
We were given a room with depressing view, after reserving a room with a pool view. It was room 103, which had a view of a wall with a maintenance ladder leaning against it. Paola refused to move us, saying that "pool view" at Casa Dorada means "1st floor", not really guaranteeing a pool view. After much unpleasant interaction with the staff, we were moved to 207. While they were preparing a new room, we were told to wait in room 103. By the time our new room was ready, I was experiencing an allergic reaction. I have allergies to pet dander, so I'm sure there was a dog or cat in that room recently. Room 207 was a better room, but most of the pool was obstructed by the bar hut. We were told that the resort was at 40% capacity, so this was very frustrating. We felt very unappreciated, which is very unusual for a 4-5 star resort. We travel abroad 6 times every year and have never been made to feel this way before.
The layout of the room was fine. If you want a walk-in shower, don’t expect that here. We had a tub shower which was very high to step into. The fridge wasn’t cold enough, even after turning it to the coldest setting, to trust it to keep food safe.
Housekeeping was very sketchy. On the two occasions that we arrived at our room while housekeeping was in our room, one time there was a man in the room with the worker with the door closed and the other time, the worker refused to let me come in to retrieve an item. When we returned to our room later, she had turned our AC off and it was very warm in the room.
The pool was very nice! Emilio, our pool and umbrella aide, was top-notch! He was very attentive and anticipated our every desire. The drinks at the pool were inconsistent. The first few days, the drinks were very good. Then, they didn’t have much alcohol in them. We had to go to the lobby bar to get good drinks.
The beach is not nice. It was crowded and there were vendors approaching us every 30-60 seconds. We like to relax at the beach, but this location is not relaxing at all.
Although our experience this year was very disappointing, we did enjoy our days at the pool and the town of Cabo.
Update: After receiving a response from the owner, we have lost all respect for this resort. I'm not sure where he got his information, but it is clearly complete fabrications. They did NOT listen and become committed to finding us a different room as soon as we complained. In fact, it took 3 trips to the front desk and I was in tears before they even agreed to come to our room to discuss this. I asked them to come to our room and show me how it could possibly be a "pool view" room. It's easy enough for them to check their cameras to see that what they claim is not true! It is also a lie that they informed us that we reserved a different type of room on our prior visit. No mention was even made of our prior visit until I wrote the original review. We are completely disgusted with their response. Another instance of being treated with absolutely no respect. I will not be called a "liar" and not respond. They...
Read moreWe stayed at Casa Dorada for our wedding on February 8. We have stayed there several times prior to this, always a great experience.||Our wedding was on the terrace with approximately 35 guests. The weekend was everything we hoped it would be, and more.||Katherine was our wedding planner, and we worked with her to iron out details for several months prior. There were personal touches by Katherine and the staff that weren't expected but greatly appreciated. Unforgettable.||Biggest takeaways from the weekend..... The flower arrangements were truly gorgeous. Far more beautiful and abundant than we expected. Big shout out to the florist.||The wedding itself came off perfectly. The minister we chose through the resort was absolutely perfect. His name was Diego Vidal, and we would happily recommend his services to anyone considering marriage at Casa Dorada.||Cocktail hour was enjoyed by everyone. The staff worked with us on signature drinks for the wedding, which was a nice touch. Besides the signature drinks, there was a full bar and DJ. Dinner was good, everyone enjoyed the steak, chicken, pasta, and sides. The staff really outdid themselves taking care of us. Prompt, friendly, efficient. And the reception with the DJ went off very well. Our guests were dancing right through the last song. All in all, a home run for wedding day. My bride and I were both very happy. Also relieved, because it was 13 months in planning.||I'd be remiss if I didn't comment on the rest of the weekend. The staff must have been told it was our wedding weekend because various people acknowledged us as well as the big weekend. The young lady working the main bar in the morning (I don't recall her name) was very friendly and welcoming. She stood out but everyone treated us so well all weekend and went out of their way for us at every turn, so I almost feel guilty singling anyone out. There were other staff members there that took great care of us during the Super Bowl party. Hundreds of people there but we never had to wait for anything. ||Last but not least, we probably had the best service we have ever had at any resort when we were on the beach. The day before the wedding my wife had 3 cabanas reserved for the ladies that were there for the wedding. She couldn't stop talking about how great the service was. The next couple days on the beach we sought out the same person as well. Good natured guy, extremely attentive, friendly, and efficient. I'm talking about YOU Jesus!!! What a great job you did for us. We will be looking for you in November on our next visit.||Once again, I really can't say enough about the staff. Very friendly and attentive and there were no exceptions. So, thank you Sandra, Katherine, and the entire Casa Dorada family for a weekend that exceeded our expectations. ...
Read moreWe stayed in a one bedroom suite. The room was large and had a balcony that had a view of the ocean. However, despite the room appearing clean, the bathroom had a sewer smell at all times which was so bad that we had to close the doors to the bathroom so that we were not woken up by the terrible smell. The beach is swimmable; however, there are many people selling things walking up and down the beach. The hotel has a roped off section where they are not supposed to enter, but that does not stop them. They walk around the ropes and constantly harass and even touch you. This, unfortunately, makes the beach not relaxing. We chose to do the all inclusive option which was a bad decision. They came in to refill our mini bar after our first night there and proceeded to tell us multiple times that the mini bar items were not included in the all inclusive. They removed all items from the mini bar except 4 waters and 4 beers despite us telling them that we would pay for the extra stuff if we used it. We asked for two large bottles of water and they insisted that was not included in the all inclusive. We stated that we still wanted them and would pay for them, and it took them 15 min. to get the bottles out of the cart in the hallway directly outside our room. The servers at the restaurants were terrible and the food is terrible. We never received everything we ordered without having to ask for it multiple times. If there was a sauce or a side selection with a menu item, the servers were always confused. Multiple people in our party speak Spanish and that did not help with the confusion. For example, I ordered enchiladas with red sauce, and it came out with green sauce. The orders were never correct. Despite having a gluten free menu, it was VERY difficult to order gluten free items. The staff was not familiar or aware of the gluten free menu. One time I was told that they only do gluten free items for dinner. (So, if I can't have gluten, I'm only allowed one meal per day?!) Never have I felt like I was starving on vacation until this hotel stay. Room service only brought one item when we ordered three items. We had to ask the room service delivery person multiple times to bring the fruit plate and bottle of water we had also ordered. It was VERY difficult to get bottles of water. Only four 15 oz. bottles are included in the mini bar with the all inclusive, and they make it VERY difficult to get more (even if you are willing to pay extra). The bartenders were NOT friendly and made ordering drinks difficult. The bartenders never smile and treat everyone like it is a big inconvenience to make drinks. Overall, it was not a good experience, and I would NOT return. We have stayed at many all inclusive hotels in Mexico, and this one is very expensive for terrible service and terrible food....
