Wow! Very cool recently remodeled restaurant design. I’m in the biz and every once in awhile I visit a restaurant that has been designed so well that I could go there nightly. This restaurant (her latest) is Owned by same lady (Edith) who has Edith’s and The Office. The experience: we arrive and they have valet parking, which is key as the neighborhood has none. The hostess gave a warm greeting and asked if it was a special occasion. I told her it was our anniversary. She offered a choice of three seating areas as it was a rather slow night and we choose the patio area. She seated the two of us at a six top as the smaller tables, which were few, were occupied. She and the server then had brief conversation and seemed as if he was objecting to her seating us at a large table. The restaurant was by no means was crowded. We then immediately got the impression the server was rushing us to make decisions, even asking us if we preferred to move to another table. He calmed down as the night wore on as it was apparent, they were not going to be busy. This was the first restaurant in Cabo we had been to that had a robust wine list, which was another plus in my eyes. We ordered a crab app, which in all fairness the server warned us was messy. What came was a smaller whole crab covered in a red sauce. So how to crack a crab covered in sauce? Not a choice I would recommend. We ordered The Octopus and the fish trio for entrees. The Octopus was artistically presented, but not as good as what we had experienced at El Peregrino. The fish trio was very delicious. We ordered Bananas Foster for dessert, which nicely flambéed tableside. The night ended with the severs having us put on sombreros, ceremoniously chug a shot of what tasted like Sprite and the Mariachi’s played an anniversary tune. They also graced us with a piece of gratis Dulce De Leche cake. Overall it was a great experience although if it had been busy, I wonder if would have been rushed. The bill here was close to double what we paid in our other Cabo dining experiences, which were all at five star rated restaurants. Our car was waiting when...
Read moreThe positives: this place is nice from the outside and inside. The host very nice and the waiter and manager very pleasant. We were nicely greeted.
The food: WAY overpriced and very bland. I ended up getting the mix fajita thay came with beef and shrimp. There were literally 5 strips of beef and 4 shrimp and the majority of the plate (which is not saying much) is veggies. Both the shrimp and beef were totally flavorless and the beef was so chewy I didn't even want to eat it. I gave it a shot and couldn't do any more. This ridiculously small and flavorless dish was $47. For a fajita! I ended up sending it back and the manager took it off the bill which was appreciated. My husband ordered a piece of meat that came with a very small tamale and another small side. While his beef (flank steak) was better, the dish as a whole was not that tasty.
We were both very unhappy with the food and just asked for the check and wanted to leave and go somewere else. As we checked in initially they always ask if you are celebrating anything. We said yes bc it was our anniversary. We'll, for all other occasions they made a ridiculous spectacle and brought out sombreros and a mini cake and shots as they procede to sing. Needless to say we were not in the mood for this and did not want it after our experiences with the food. My husband saw them getting ready (as I was outside trying to avoid and stop what was about to happen). He told them "No, we just want to bill and to leave". We'll they must have waiting for me for 5 minutes to come back in the restaurant, and as I was standing up with my bag on my shoulder and my husband was signing the bill they proceded to do their ridiculous "celebration). Even after I said no, and was still standing with nearly one foot out the door they started singing. Talk about an embarrassment.
Needless to say we went immediately to one of our favorite Mexican restaurants about a 10 minute walk away and had a...
Read moreWe visited Tres Sirenas in Cabo with our family and were excited to try it out. The restaurant is beautiful, family-friendly, and had live music that really added to the ambiance. Surprisingly, it wasn’t very crowded, which was unexpected given how inviting the space is.
One thing we really appreciated was their fresh juices..actual juices, not overly sweet purées, which is a rare and welcome touch. Early on, the waiter brought out a board showcasing the fresh catch of the day: steaks, shrimp, and a large whole fish. Since I wasn’t too hungry, I agreed to share with my husband, who selected the biggest fish shown. The waiter assured us it would be enough for two.
That’s where things took a disappointing turn. When the dish arrived, it was extremely small, nowhere near the size or weight of the whole fish we had been shown. We were told it was just the filet, but what we received felt like a fraction of what we had been led to expect. It honestly felt like a bait and switch. We dine out often and travel extensively, so we’re not unfamiliar with market pricing or portion sizes but this was clearly misleading.
When we brought it to the staff’s attention, their solution was to offer us bread and butter, which felt a bit dismissive given the situation.
The fish tasted good, and the atmosphere is lovely, but the experience left us disappointed. With more transparency this place could be excellentbut for now, we left...
