I just got back from Cabo yesterday after having a bachelorette weekend for my sister. We were having an amazing time in Cabo until we went to the Mango Deck on Saturday. We were staying in a villa close by in Pedregal and our concierge told us we couldn't make reservations for the Mango Deck but we could stand in line to get a table. We arrived at Mango Deck on Saturday around noon and stood in line and when we got to the front we were told we couldn't get inside without a reservation. We explained to them what we were told by the concierge and that we checked their website and it said we couldn't make reservations. But the guy kept telling us no that we could not come in there. The issue is we are a group of black women and there were other groups in the line that told us they didn't have reservations either (we were chatting with the other groups in line and discussing other places to go). Our group then decided to go next door to the office because our concierge had made us a reservation there as a back up. While seated at the office we looked over at the Mango Deck (there is a rope that separates the two restaurants) and noticed the group of "white" guys that were behind us in line and didn't have a reservation at Mango Deck were sitting at a table over there, along with all the other groups that were in line behind us and didn't have a reservation. This really upset us. They let all the "white" groups in that didn't have reservations but they sent us away because we are black. After we finished eating we went back to The Mango Deck and demanded answers and a different person told us that we didn't need a reservation to get inside but that now they were at capacity and couldn't let us inside. We asked for a manager and we he came he just told us we were lying and that we weren't there earlier and no one told us we couldn't get inside (Why would we lie about being there a few hours before). I pointed to a camera and told him to check and see if we were there and which of his employees was working the door and he said no. There was no apology or anything. They were so rude and racist. We were looking forward to visiting the Mango Deck and we were very disappointed in how we were treated. They do not like black...
Read moreI'm only leaving 2 stars so that hopefully this review gets a bit more visibility (algorithm)
Anyway, I don't not understand why or how this place has 4+ overall stars. I wish I read the negative reviews prior warning me to stay away due to the terrible service, bad overpriced food, racism, and scamming/credit card fraud. I'm surprised a few other things weren't mentioned as well such as the fact the liquor is watered down. Husband and I drank 2 "Don Julio" shots and just no. Absolutely without a doubt the tequila shots were cut with water. Food was blah bland. rice looked old. Entertainment (dancers) was cute. Overall a kitschy spring break young and wild vibe.
Regarding the racism we didn't think much of it at first but after we sat and waited for 25 minutes without service we looked around and noticed we were only 1 of 2 black parties. The other party was getting service (it was a large group $$). But my husband and I were ignored while everyone else got service until we waved someone down. But on the other group's way out we happened to catch them telling a worker they didn't appreciate the server lying and saying they didn't pay their bill when they indeed paid in cash. After that, when our bill came we made sure to pay with card and take a pic or copy of paid receipt. I'm also not certain but I believe I heard the waiter reading our card numbers through his mic to someone while simultaneously typing them into his handheld POS device. Beware. It's only been a few days since we returned home but I will most definitely update this review if any suspicious charges...
Read moreWaiter made suggestions for group dining. Said it was 1,200 pesos. We were charged 2,500 pesos for each platter instead. That is the correct menu price but the waiter deceived us. Minus a star. Then he got mad because we only tipped him $20 US dollars after being forced to pay about $430 US dollars for our meal. He wanted $80 US dollars for tip based on receipt not service, even pointed at the receipt. Minus another star. It was hot so we were not super hungry, which is a good thing because that platter was shallow; not much food in it, minus another star. They do provide some entertainment which is fun to watch, like the customers doing push ups and drink race BUT then a group went up to dance and then they stood at our table for a minute waiting for a tip, telling us to tip them because we were watching. What??? Minus another star.
Overall, that strip of beach has been our worst Mexican experience ever. Notice that most of the negative reviews are from the last 12 months??
I wish I had planned the trip to have read the reviews and skipped this spot. I didn’t know the waiter wanted more tip at the time, which explains why he completely ignored me when we were leaving. Rude.
Sit as far away from the music as you can so you can focus on ordering if you have a group.
Check out the prices and pictures! (at 16 pesos per US dollar) is it worth the price?
