Stayed at Bahia Hotel 5 nights. The room was spacious and clean with comfortable beds, split AC and good shower. So you might be wondering why I gave only 2 stars. If it was only about the room, I would give 5 stars but everything else about this hotel was a disappointment.
First let’s start with the beach house. We found during check-in that you need to make reservations in advance to use the beach house and they were fully booked. We told them that we didn’t come to Cabo to stay in our rooms and that we were hoping to use the beach house. They were courteous and put us in a waiting list, but for the 5 days of our stay we didn’t get any call back and didn’t get to use the beach house at all. You can still go to Medano beach, but you are on our own to rent umbrellas and deal with beach howkers. This is not a big deal but the problem is that we had false expectations that this hotel had beach facilities. Everything from the hotel description to the pictures imply they have this beautiful area at the beach that you can enjoy. It’s a lie.
Second, the breakfast. We booked our rooms with included “continental breakfast”. They serve breakfast in the Esquina restaurant next to the lobby. Every day we headed to the restaurant and we waited. Then waited some more. Then waited a little more. Then someone would come to take our order. We would explain we were staying at the hotel and had breakfast included in our room rate. Then we waited, and waited, and waited some more. Well, by this point you got the idea. There was a lot of waiting. But that’s not the worst. When the food came it was literally two slices of toast, a glass of orange juice or coffee and a little bit of fruit. That’s it. That’s what they call “continental breakfast”. It was so little food that we had to order a side of scrambled eggs which they (over)charged separately.
Which brings me to the third complaint: everything is overpriced in this hotel. The Esquina restaurant and SUR Beach House are both priced like they are a Michelin-star restaurants. Everything in the room is also overpriced. They charge 60 pesos (about 3 dollars) for a single capsule of Nespresso. I don’t remember the last hotel I stayed that doesn’t offer complimentary in-room coffee. Then you are forced to pay a daily “resort fee” at checkout. This is listed in the hotel description, but I wonder why this hotel charges a resort fee. It’s not even close to being a resort. The swimming pool is tiny and empty most of the time.
Conclusion: If you are looking for a clean bed close to the beach this is the hotel for you. Get the room without the included “continental breakfast” and go have breakfast somewhere else. Forget about the beach house and go have fun at your own in Medano or any of other beach in Cabo. Don’t create expectations of resort-like beach facilities, or you will get frustrated (like I did).
PS: the staff was (mostly) friendly so this review is mostly about the (disappointing) beach facilities and overcharged prices at the...
Read moreI am a frequent solo traveler and have never been to a place where I did not feel safe inside my hotel room. There were two occasions during my stay where the non housekeeping staff walked into my room without knocking or announcement. The first incident I had just gotten out of the shower and my door just opened. The security chain was latched and the lady apologized and closed the door. I called the front desk they stated that the staffer was unaware that the room was occupied. I let that slip up go... The next evening I had falling asleep across my bed and woke up to my door being slammed shut. When I get up. My door is unlocked and I see a man walking away from my door. My door was now unlocked with the security chain off (both of these are ALWAYS locked). When I called the front desk to report the second incident. I was told that the staffer thought I had requested turn down service but was mistaken. No one could explain to me why or how these incidents happened and no one can explain to me why the staffers did not at the very least knock before entering my room as housekeeping did each day. I asked for the General managers information as the guest services Damaraus seemed dismissive of the situation when I visited the front desk shortly after. She did offer a free night on my next visit but there will be no next visit. I have an early morning flight and it was about 8pm when this incident happened. I contemplated checking out then and heading to the airport but opted to just prop the chair and ironing board under the door handle in case someone else decided to let themselves in. I am now unable to relax and won't be getting any sleep here this last night but luckily won't be here much longer. Being a solo traveler I definitely will not be returning and suggest a different hotel when visiting Cabo.
Observation: The dead bolt secured from the inside automatically unlocks when someone enters from the outside with a keycard. The security chain did not secure on the...
Read moreI just came back home from a four day stay in this Hotel. I strongly recommend it. I usually stay away from big resorts because I hate the all inclusive food and the lack of service. I had hesitations booking this hotel because is not a beach front property but after reading the good reviews I gave a try and I'm super happy I did!
Customer service is AMAZING. from the bell boys to the pool bar everyone greets you with a smile and are there to really enjoy your time. Shut out to Rafa from the front desk who made us feel VIP and gave us some bomb recommendations for fish tacos. Also amazing service by Jose Luis and Alberto at the coffee shop located in the restaurant, coffee is great, conversation is fun and pastries are to die for (don't leave without trying the red croissant filled with cream cheese. Kudos to Carlos our pool bar man who kept us happy and hydrated too! Also this pool bar won't serve you nasty frozen food or college snacks they have tuna tartare and great guacamole.
You can use the Hotel beach house SUR located on Medano beach,is 5 min walk from the hotel or you can always get a ride in a golf cart from the lobby. The minimum consumption is 500 pesos roughly 35 bucks and the food is GREAT. Please try the octopus tacos, the tuna chicarron, and my sister said the SUR hamburger was amazing too. Beach is public so you can check other spots if you want to and you can book any activity there.
The hotel is also a 10 minute walk from Downtown so we never needed a taxi, we went out and we always felt safe.
Last but not least make reservations for the Hotel Restaurant, "La Esquina" Food and drinks are amazing and is one of the best restaurants in Cabo area. Overall, I would go back in a heart beat, honestly congratulations to the whole team that works at the Hotel I can tell they really enjoy what they do and I loved every minute of my staying there and I am sure we will...
