Colores y sabores was the single greatest restaurant of our weeklong trip in Mexico and possibly of our lives. We attribute much of the exceptional experience to the owner extraordinaire Regina (and her adorable dog Lucho). The night started with her personally running out in her car to get avocados for our guacamole when the restaurant had run low. She rushed back with the avocados to make the superb guacamole but not before she greeted us with the kindness and warmth of family. She told us that she gets joy out of cooking each meal like they are for loved ones and it showed. Throughout the meal, each dish felt like it was made with love. Starting with the queso fundido and homemade warm tortillas we knew that we were in for the ride of a lifetime. The warmth and richness of the queso was perfectly balanced by the frozen, creamy drinks (the margaritas and pina coladas were as delicious as they were generous portions). When asked how they tasted so incredible Regina lit up and proudly shared her recipe that included fresh fruit and years of perfecting. She similarly shared the dedication that went into perfecting her homemade corn tortillas, a process to which she attributes a 20 kg weight gain. When the main course came we weren’t even hungry. We had filled our stomachs with delicious apps and drinks. However, seeing the beautiful presentation, and smelling the irresistable dishes we couldn’t help but finish every last bite. The shrimp fajitas were a sizzling plate of deliciousness, perfectly spiced and balanced with the most delicate, fresh corn tortillas. The Baja shrimp tacos were out of this world with a thin, crispy exterior and moist fresh interior (not to mention they were larger than any others on the island). The Centro de Mexico dish allowed us to try countless options each of which was more delicious than the next. In fact, as we were sharing this dish it became a race to the finish so that each of us could as many bites as possible. After unbuttoning our pants we even ordered another round of drinks and dessert. Expressing our true sadness that our trip was coming to an end and so we would not be able to return for another meal, Regina expressed that if we could make it for breakfast she would give us a ride to the airport herself. Lamenting that we won’t be able to find food anywhere near this same quality in the states we wished that we could fly her out but she wisely notes that the freshness of the ingredients on this island are part of the secret to her success. Not wishing to make her compromise quality, we instead are already planning our return trip to cozumel to return to this fine...
Read moreWe come to Cozumel every winter and spend a month or two. Cozumel has excellent restaurants. We always visit Colores y Sabores within our first week because the service provided by owner operator , Regina Robledo David, and her staff is warm, welcoming and first class. The drinks are great whether you are interested in the many fresh juices available for a non alcoholic drink or the full bar to support many cocktails that are available. Tonight my husband had a vodka tonic and I had a delicious well mixed lime margarita. The guacamole was fresh and a perfect starter with chips and our cocktails. For our main course we had our favorite dinner prepared at this restaurant, chile rellanos mixto. This is a huge poblano pepper stuffed with beef and cheese and covered in a delicious sauce. The best version of this dish on the island. It comes with rice and beans. We were given such generous portions that we each brought half our meal home for tomorrow’s lunch. We could not resist topping this fantastic meal off with a perfect carrot cake. Moist and flavorful, accompanied with a cup of americano coffee. We will soon return. This is a small gem of a wonderful restaurant for a warm, welcomed meal of fresh fish or Mexican...
Read moreOur ship docked here for the day and after searching Google for a highly recommended place to eat, we found Colores y Sabores. The restaurant was small and the eight of us about filled the place, but where it is small on space, it is big on flavor. All eight of us throughly enjoyed our food. The chicken tampiquena was the best I ever had. It was tender and juicy and full of flavor. The homemade blue corn tortillas were fresh, hot and flavorful! My son had a cactus, pineapple and celery frozen drink. He loved it. He also had the seafood soup which had octopus and fish cubes in it. He enjoyed it and was glad to see that it didn’t make him sick. Lol My daughter, who hates Mexican food loved her chicken tacos and finished them off. My mom, who wasn’t hungry finished off her food. My other son had the quesadillas and couldn’t finish them off, he took them to go because he didn’t want to miss out on finishing them off! We ordered the queso with poblano peppers. It was different than Tex-Amex queso, but it was delicious as were the chips! Although we don’t have pics of the food, because we ate it all so fast, I did get a cute photo that shows off some of...
