Hotel Moonlight — Restaurant in Kathmandu Metropolitan City

Hotel Moonlight is on the edge of Thamel, less than one kilometer from Kathmandu Mall and Times Square Mall. It offers a rooftop terrace with lovely views of Kathmandu. The colorful rooms at Moonlight Hotel offer a choice of air conditioning or a fan. Each room has a TV, a small sitting area, and a laptop-sized safe. The private bathroom has a bathtub and shower. The hotel provides free Wi-Fi and free airport pick-up. A tour desk offers travel assistance and car or motorbike rental. The staff can also assist with currency exchange and laundry services. Open 24 hours daily, the restaurant and bar serves local and international dishes. Guests can also order room service. Hotel Moonlight is a 20-minute drive from Tribhuvan International Airport. Royal Palace Museum is just a 5-minute drive away. Thamel is a great choice for travelers interested in shopping, food and hiking Basically everything met my expectations. In general Nepal is just building up it’s tourism sector. This requires training, patients and experience. I can’t expect the same service as I experience in Dubai. But things are going in the right direction. Great location right at the outesode of Thamel. You can walk I side the tourist area but also can walk downtown to the city with all its beautiful Tempels, Stupas and discover quirky Kathmandu. Considering that Nepal has a lack of resources and struggles with poverty and governmental issues I was very surprised. The internet was amazing. Ok, let me explain myself because I’m so annoyed with them, even the place is good enough (remember we are talking about a hotel in Nepal, not in EU or US).

I must say that the service is as good as expected, waters and waitresses are so nice, everyone in the hotel speaks English (maybe someone’s accent is hard to understand😅).

If we talk about the place itself, once you get in it doesn’t looks like the zone where it is placed, not at all! I repeat, don’t forget you’re in Nepal. Rooms are clean, every day you have a couple of sealed water bottles, and they clean the room as you can expect.

So, why I’m that annoyed? What’s my complain? When we first arrived they told us they have an exchange service, and there is a screen with the exchange rate right behind the reception desk. Half an hour ago I asked them to exchange 100€ (14048 NPR at the minute) but they told me they haven’t got that amount there so they asked me to leave my 100€ there for 10 min and come back in 10 min. Obviously I told them I was going to go back in 10 min but I wasn’t going to leave 100€ in exchange of nothing now. 10 min later I went back there, but they told me that the exchange service was already closed. I asked when I can exchange that money and they told me that the service opens again tomorrow, 1 hour after my check out.

Service here is truly outstanding. The staff—ever-smiling and intuitive—consistently went the extra mile, whether helping with travel arrangements, resolving minor hiccups like ATM card issues, or simply making me feel warmly welcomed.

Breakfast deserves a separate mention: a thoughtfully curated buffet served amidst greenery that adds just the right touch to begin your day. The hotel also offers excellent facilities—from a spa and café to banquet spaces and travel assistance, making it both a functional and boutique experience.
