Beneath the pohutukawa's shade, so green, Where waves of bright Hibiscus bloom are seen, And breezes from the Hauraki Gulf blow light, Stands Oliver's Cafe, a beacon in the light. The sunbeams on the pavement, warm and deep, While memories the old stone walls still keep. A morning ritual, a familiar grace, To find a seat in this beloved place. The bell above the door gives out a gentle chime, A welcome note to mark the passing time. The aroma spills, a promise rich and sweet, Of roasted coffee beans and things to eat. The clatter of the cups, a soft, low hum, The chatter of the folk who've lately come. The smiling faces, strangers, and old friends, A tapestry on which the day depends. The barista works with practiced, quiet art, Pouring latte hearts to play a part. The foamy swirls, a canvas in a cup, A gentle signal that the day is up. The cabinet is full, a wondrous sight, With slices, scones, and pastries, bathed in light. A carrot cake, its frosting snowy white, A cheese scone, golden, fluffy, and so right. The toasted sandwiches with melted cheese, A simple comfort, meant to truly please. The eggs on toast, a classic morning fare, Served up with mushrooms, hash browns, and with care. The old men sit, their papers spread out wide, And talk of fishing, and the changing tide. Young mothers push their prams and sip their tea, While children's laughter echoes, wild and free. The artists sketch the view across the bay, The writers find a quiet place to stay. Each table holds a story, yet untold, A place where new connections can take hold. The winter rain may fall, a silver screen, And fog roll in across the beach's scene. But inside Oliver's, the warmth remains, A sanctuary from the cold, gray rains. The summer's heat can make the air grow thick, The ice machine makes a refreshing click. The cold brew pours, a dark and chilled delight, To cool the senses, chase the sun so bright. So here's a toast to Oliver's, a place so dear, Where every kind of heart feels welcome here. A constant in a world that shifts and flies, A little piece of heaven 'neath...
Read moreI am extremely disappointed with the service at Oliver's Café, especially considering this is the second year in a row I've had issues with booking a table for Mother's Day.
Two weeks prior to Mother's Day, my partner called to book a table for four. The lady who answered took our booking and phone number. However, when I called to confirm the booking the Thursday before Mother's Day, I was informed by a staff member that they did not have our booking and had stopped taking bookings a week ago. When I explained that our booking was made and confirmed two weeks ago, the staff member rudely stated there was a second booking book upstairs but the phone didn't work there. She promised to check and call me back that day, but I never received a call.
This lack of organization and poor customer service is unacceptable, especially as this is the second year we have faced such issues. Last year, we also booked in advance, had our booking confirmed, only to arrive and be told there was no record of it, with no apology or attempt to rectify the situation.
These experiences have ruined Mother's Day for us, and it's clear that Oliver's Café has serious issues with their booking system and customer service. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a reliable and pleasant...
