Orewa Surf Club Cafe — Restaurant in Hibiscus and Bays

After 5 years of bringing my social group to the Surf Club every month (except during its receivership), I was very disappointed with the service this evening. I always book upstairs to avoid the noise downstairs, and this booking was confirmed midweek and again the day before. On arrival, I was told no table was available upstairs.

When I asked for the Cafe General Manager, he seemed uninterested and blamed the digital booking system. Only after prompting did he offer a sarcastic apology. We were then seated downstairs, but after receiving our drinks, a waiter informed us we’d have to leave within 60 minutes due to another booking—even though we usually stay around two hours, continuing to order food and drinks.

We booked a table on the upstairs deck.....what a view! It has to be one of the few true beach front eateries in New Zealand. It is a definitely a surf club. It's rustic, but in a good way and chilled. The staff were friendly and attentive. The menu has just enough good grub, without being too big a menu. My beautiful daughter and I went walking, getting fatigued we decided to get drinks and hot chips at Orewa surf club cafe, having supported them previously! ABSOLUTELY WOW! Fantastic service, cold drinks and wonderfully hot large chips my best this year. I would recommend Orewa SLC cafe to anyone wanting refreshments and delicious food, with fabulous sea views to not go past their venue right on the beach front! Arthur C....
