We recently dined at Cafe Del Sol in Boracay, trying both their cakes and breakfast dishes. Here’s our experience:
• Mango Cheesecake: The cheesecake didn’t quite meet our expectations. It had more of a panna cotta or tofu-like texture, which wasn’t what we were hoping for. While it did have a syrupy mango flavor and came topped with real mango slices, it didn’t really taste like a cheesecake to us. • Carrot Cake: A definite highlight. The carrot cake was wonderfully moist, filled with lots of raisins, and the cream cheese frosting had just the right amount of sweetness to complement the cake. We’d come back for this, especially paired with a hot coffee. • Tocino (Breakfast): The tocino was good, but fairly standard. You can find similar quality at other places for around PHP 200-300. It was satisfying, but not something that particularly stood out. • Bangus (Breakfast): The bangus, on the other hand, was impressive and well worth the price. It had a great flavor and was one of the better breakfast items we’ve had on the island.
We sat on the second floor, which was peaceful in the morning, as most guests were likely at buffet breakfasts elsewhere. It was a nice spot to enjoy our meal.
However, when we visited late at night (around 11:25 PM) to try the cakes, the staff seemed to be in a hurry, possibly because it was close to closing time. It made the experience feel rushed, and we didn’t get to fully enjoy our dessert. By contrast, the morning staff was more relaxed and welcoming.
In terms of pricing, we paid around PHP 400+ for the cakes, which is comparable to pastry shops in Makati. But at Cafe Del Sol, you also get the added bonus of a great view of...
