Saboroso — Restaurant in Lisbon

The food was fine. But here's a tip for Americans: if they bring out a basket of bread and some cheese when you first sit down without you ordering them, you are expected to either say no thank you and have them take it away, or else you will be charged for it even if you don't eat it. I thought it was complementary, like they will bring out some bread at restaurants in America. Then when the check arrived, they had charged me for it. I went ahead and paid because it wasn't a huge amount and I had eaten it all, but I thought they were taking advantage of me. Operating in a tourist service industry, they should have known that Americans didn't understand this, and should have let me know. They smiled and said they were sorry, but they refused to drop the charges. The front desk staff back at my hotel said that this was normal custom for Portugal. At least now I...

The food is ok, don't take me wrong. But the service is awful. The waiter treats you like he is tired and wanna go home. It's 2 pm only but...

So we ordered and food was decent and price was decent. Well and here comes the waiter to tell you once you ask for the bill that you have to pay only in cash, they have no machine.

Then you say, listen wouldn't you have to say this in the beginning? And the waiter points with his finger a little paper that supposedly says so. A little paper stiked to a wall. While you are sitting in the terrace outside.

He didn't say nothing at the beginning when you start ordering, he prefers to avoid that info. So one of us had to walk til finding an ATM machine for 20 minutes and get cash for the waiter...

This is a very nice place to visit in Lisbon if you are looking for a honest price combined with a good and traditional handmade Portuguese food at a simple and old style restaurant. You could get there nice traditional delicacies from Portuguese pastry and also different dishes from omelettes to shrimp. The menu is wide enough to satisfy many different tastes and wishes.

The staff here is nice and careful, even though they are usually running due to the amount of clients. Everything here is prepared with care and the dishes are very much well served and prices are very good and somewhat unexpected considering the location it is. Besides, their place is very comfortable and cozy, what makes you enjoy and experience the nice Portuguese...
