On the 25th of December, Christmas night, we decided to treat ourselves to a meal that felt like pure magic. As big fans of Somebody Feed Phil, we couldn’t pass up the chance to visit this gem in Lisbon, featured in one of our favorite episodes. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and inviting—just the way you’d want to spend a holiday evening.

The restaurant, called Jesus e Goes, immediately transports you to Goa with the aroma of spices and sweetness wafting through the air. The menu is simple yet enticing, and we started with the shrimp samosas. They were perfectly crisp, well-spiced, and came with two chutneys—a vibrant coriander chutney and a spicy chutney, both of which were absolutely delicious.

For our main course, we ordered the Xacuti goat curry and the shrimp masala curry, served with a big bowl of rice and Goan chapati. The shrimp masala curry was divine—a perfect balance of sweetness, tamarind, and spice. The shrimp itself was generously portioned, soft, and cooked to perfection. Combined with the rice, the flavors melted in your mouth, creating a dish we’ll never forget.

The Xacuti goat curry was equally exquisite. Made with 11 different spices, it delivered a complexity of flavors that was deeply satisfying. The goat was tender, perfectly seasoned, and melted in our mouths. Pairing the curries with the soft and pillowy Goan chapati was the ideal way to soak up every last bit of the flavorful sauces.

For dessert, we indulged in a chocolate dish accompanied by whiskey jellies and raspberries. While the flavor was exceptional—rich and well-balanced—the texture leaned slightly gelatinous. Nevertheless, the taste more than made up for it.

The service was impeccable. The host was warm and welcoming, offering attentive and quick service while crafting delightful cocktails that perfectly complemented the meal. The restaurant itself exuded charm, with interesting artwork that added to the cozy and vibrant ambience.

Overall, we’d give Jesus e Goes a glowing 5 out of 5 for its exquisite food, incredible service, and unforgettable atmosphere. For anyone visiting Lisbon, this is a must-visit destination. A meal here is more than just dinner—it’s an experience that stays with you long...

TL;DR: If you come from a country that categorizes ketchup as adventurous, you may love the food.

It took me a long time to write this review because I didn’t want to do it while having the immediate reaction influencing my judgment.

I got the chance to hear about the restaurant many times, and finally went there to check it. Here it goes my honest and sincere review.

The space is small, it doesn’t fit that many people, but you can eat somehow comfortable. Prices are expensive, a meal for two cost over €60—if you are a local, you know this is above the average. The location definitely influences, as it’s behind Avenida da Liberdade, which kinda makes sense.

Service was very good. The waitress was helpful, explain us more about the food and recommended us the most famous dishes.

As starters, we got something delicious. It had coriander, and it tasted super fresh, we loved it. Sadly, the next ones didn’t follow the same trend.

For the main course, we ate one made with shrimp and tomato sauce, and the other it was with lamb (if I’m not mistaken). Let’s face it, it doesn’t look tasty, but “new experience, let’s go for it.” (Check the pictures by yourself)

The taste was aligned with the look. The food was super spicy, so my wife couldn’t eat—we were not informed about it by the way. Regardless, I eat spicy food regularly and these dishes were not tasty at all. The combination of shrimp with tomato sauce doesn’t seem to be a good fit. The lamb tasted different, but not a good different. Overall, we love the starters but hated the main course.

There were a lot of gringos there (by gringo I mean anyone who doesn’t speak Portuguese natively), and they seemed to be happy about it. Perhaps if you come from a country with a very bland cuisine that categorizes ketchup as a fundamental component or the only spices you use are salt and black pepper, you may love the food. Otherwise, I recommend saving your euros for...

The kitchen MESSED ME UP because of their carelessness.

I have a severe nut allergy, so once I sat down, I alerted the waitress of my allergy and asked what I could safely order off the menu. She told me what had nuts and said she would check with the kitchen. I ordered and ate (the food I ate was very good to be fair) but as soon as I bit into the tamarind fig samosa, I recognized the texture of nuts and spit out the food.

I immediately asked the waitress if there were nuts in the samosa - she checked with the kitchen and said yes, cashews (nooooo). She said that she didn't realize there were going to be nuts in the samosa and that it was not listed with nuts on the menu. I took my emergency allergy medicine and told her I had to leave immediately (my nut reactions can run from facial swelling and vomiting, all the way to life-threatening anaphylactic shock - not fun in a public establishment). They let me go without me paying and apologised, but that still does not excuse all of the pain I am going to go through as this reaction runs its course.

I am writing this as a PSA to other severe allergy sufferers and a plea to the kitchen to list main ingredients on the menu or AT LEAST know and be clear about what is in their food. Fortunately, I will be more or less fine, but this kind of careless can actually KILL people. Please don't do...

Loved our experience dining at Jesus é Goês! I am loving my first trip to Portugal and was delighted watching travel shows like Somebody feed Phil, to find Goan delicacies served so far from home. I just had to try it! And I'm happy to say, I'm so very glad I did. It is a nostalgic experience for anyone who is from or has been to Goa and loves the flavors of this unique cuisine. We tried the Holy burger, Chick pea pakoras with chutney, Chicken cafreal and were blown away by the unique and innovative take on Veg Xacuti with mushrooms and chestnuts! The creamy bebinca was the perfect end to the perfect meal (IYKYK 😋 👌😍). We were so engrossed in the meal we even forgot to take pics, which is unusual for a shutterbug like me and speaks to the caliber of the meal. Even if you've never been to Goa but enjoy trying out flavorful world cuisines... do yourself a favor and don't wait too long to book. This is a small place that fills up fast. Jesus! I was told we visited on your Birthday so missed meeting you! Happy Birthday and thank you for the birthday cake!!! Also thank you for representing Goan flavors with so much authenticity and innovation! Your food is truly amazing!
