Unico Vero — Restaurant in Bucharest

The atmosphere is romantic, but the food is way too pricy, and it is not justified by its quality. There are few tables and three or four waiters, but the services aren't good (one placed a plate on top a serviette I used previously, didn't even bother to take it; took long time to get a water's attention despite being so many of them compared to the number of tables; they forget to put the cutlery on serviettes etc). One of the most expensive places is Bucharest, for example, one beer is almost 20 lei, a simple rucola salad is 22 lei. Ended up paying 400 lei for two people for a very basic starter-main course with two beers each. The only reason it even deserves 3 stars is because of the atmosphere. Wouldn't have even minded paying so much if the food and services were impeccable, but they weren't. Very disappointed! We ordered fried calamari as a starter, which were served bland, no side or sauce with a quarter of a lemon (we asked for more and it never arrived). The disaster however was not the starter, but the pasta. We ordered 2 portions of Paccheri Cacio e Pepe and 1 portion of Carbonara. The paccheri were a sad version of boiled pasta with bland water and a bit of oil and pecorino, not creamy at all, a total lack of taste and texture and my friend was also disappointed with the Carbonara which was far from the original Italian recipe with guanciale. A real Italian restaurant would never serve pasta like this. We complained about the pasta and the waiter could only argue with us explaining that this is how cacio e pepe is supposed to be, no apology or anything similar to any form of hospitality. Such a shame, because the terrace is beautiful. We will definitely avoid this place in the future. If you want really good Italian food in Bucharest, try...

The restaurant is cosy and has very nice atmosphere. We had two pizzas and a cheese cake and this experience lasted whole two hours. Really slow service. We picked the pizza because we did not have much time but still waited almost an hour for it. It wasn‘t great, was ok. It was nice that we received some carrots and olives at the beginning as a compliment, otherwise we would have dropped dead from hunger. Staff was polite but not speaking any english so they got the order wrong but still wanted us to take it. In the end the bill came with prerecommended tips starting from 13%. Which i find high. In Europe it‘s usually 10% and if you are satisfied with the service. It‘s pricey which is ok if the experience matches the price, unfortunately we didn‘t have...
