We were a large group of people (had 4 rooms) and stayed there for 4 nights around the winter holidays.|| ||- Great price. DoubleTree closer to center is something like 4x .. ? Why pay that..||- You are still about 10-15 minutes walking from old city center, Piata Uniri. Yes, walking back involves walking a good incline, maybe the equivalent of a 6 story building, so if you people with mobility issues in your group I would not recommend.||- in return for dealing with the great incline you are rewarded with awesome views of the city. There is a main terrace available from the restaurant, but there are also terraces open to all guests on the the 2nd and and also on the 3rd floor. ||- Breakfast is extra and had no buffet when we were there. Had no problem ordering eggs, or traditional cheese/salami plates, eggplant salad, etc.||- Lunch & Dinner was quick. Not a lot of food, but sufficient (in line with other romanian restaurants), it came out in about 25 minutes or less. Did not think it was too expensive by US standards, maybe $US10-15 for the more expensive entrees ?||- Expresso machine in bar/reception area.||- ok shower (not too cramped as in some of other "budget" romanian pensions), some rooms had full tubs, some had larger shower stalls. Water pressure.was ok.||||- Be careful with GPS/ Waze route, which will have a tendency to route you through the small city streets if you need to go South. You can avoid going through the small city streets if you approach from the highway #1 from the west. You can take road #1 west to the A3 highway (Autostrada...
Read moreHad a wonderful experience. Dinner with my wife, brother-in-law and his wife.
The waiter was very courteous and respectful. Came and asked us several times if everything was okay, took group photos several times without hesitation, cleared the dishes and said "Sa va fie de bine".
The music was what I'd like in an elegant restaurant. Jazz with some foreign music and other interesting mixes. Really enjoyed the choices and the noise level
The restaurant decor is a step above, the dinner table was superbly layed out and spacious. The plates and cutlery and glassware appeared new, polished and without chips in them. The seats felt very comfortable and rustic but royal, at least the dining room seats. Outside we didn't stay as it was raining. I really enjoyed the more "vintage" look of the place. Modern clean cut and minimalist is being overused in most places.
The FOOD... We all really enjoyed our meals! Beautifully arranged on our plates and full of wonderful flavours. I spent 291 lei for 4 people. 4 main courses, 1 soup, 5 drinks, 1 salad, 2 deserts.
I would come back to this restaurant without hesitation!
Another final note. For those of you who are non-smokers, I liked that the doors to the smokers area was kept closed so I didn't have to breathe in the fumes. Other places have annoyed me...
Read moreSo this was quite an experience. I've been spending some time with my guests from Ireland that were considering moving to Cluj. I wanted to take them somewhere nice.
I arrived earlyer than the rest of the group. I had time to admire the beautiful view in the 15 minutes, alone at a 6 people table until I was asked for drinks, with a ciggarette in my hand waiting for an ashtray.
After my guests arrived, we've had a wonderful time together in whole 20 minutes waiting to be taken our order and the next hour while waiting for the food.
One might say that good things take time. Meanwhile, the "good" things that took so much time: the cutlery thrown on the table without napkins no napkins in general no spices (salt, pepper, etc) provided only upon request part of the order forgotten
When we raised these issues to the waiter he just said: "It's a festival in town" and left. We went to a restaurant, not to a festival.
So if you ever feel like going to a wanna be fency place and feel like eating on a bench in the park with a nice view, this is the...
