This is one of those places that I hope to visit, when booking my first experience at a restaurant. Everything about this place checks out positively, from the location to the staff and of course the food.
You get this "Mom-and-pop" feel about the place as soon as you get to it, and with a limited capacity of about 25-30 couples per dinner service, they also deliver on that feeling in terms of exclusivity. We arrived right when they opened at 6pm, hoping to get a walk-in table, and we could see they were hesitant before complying. I believe it helped that we were just two young adults. We saw couples and groups arriving after us, only to be politely turned away, because they were fully booked for the evening, for days in fact. I recommend booking table there, even off season, because you don't want to miss this.
The restaurant is located away from the busy lake area, and you don't hear cars or tourists at all, which is very nice. The style of the restaurant is that typical of the Alps, with lots of woodworks, lots of charming details, heirloom objects, lots of colors, flowers etc., and everything looks nice and well maintained.
We had the pleasure of having Alma and Dennis taking care of us, and they are exactly what I hope restaurant staff to be like. They were funny, attentive, charming and masters of their craft. I would have written a positive review had they not been all that, because the food is amazing, but it just made the evening for us.
The food is fresh, well made, local in all aspects that counts and wonderfully tasteful. Their meat selection for steaks is amazing, and I love that they list their prices in 100gr. cuts, so if you want a 300gr. Ribeye, you know exactly how much it will be. Everything is from grass fed cattle, and their products come from all over the world.
We shared the Chateaubriand and I'm happy my girlfriend held me back from ordering more than just a soup before that (I was eyeing their carpaccio among other delicious looking dishes), because it was a lot of food. And the food was just perfect. From the temperature of the meat, to the quality of the vegetables, the sauce au jus and the bread.
The fact that this wonderful restaurant also has a mountain view from the terrace where we enjoyed our dinner, just makes this an...
Read moreAbsolutely delicious steak and great sides. Our server also directed us - we got the ribeye and the spider steaks, and considered getting the baked potatoes but he recommended steering away from them so we didn't mix the bacon topping on the potatoes with the great flavor of the steaks. There are options for sauces for the steaks as well that we were interested in, but he recommended we taste the steak first and decide after that - and he was right! The steaks were so flavorful, sauce would have taken away from that. We were very appreciative of his guidance, especially since the sauces are an upcharge - so he was clearly giving honest recommendations. We both usually get our steaks medium rare, but he recommended the Spider steak not be rarer than medium. I followed his recommendation and was not disappointed! TRUST YOUR SERVER! Note prices on the menu for the steaks is per 100g (~3.5oz), and the server will tell you what size steaks they have available for purchase. Some dishes have sides included; the nicer steaks are solo and sides can be ordered a la cart.
The restaurant has good ambience. Our one and only "complaint", if you can even call it that, is that the music playing while you eat is all pop remixes, so this detracted very slightly from what was otherwise a wonderful experience. It sounded like we should have been dancing rather than eating a fancy meal. May we suggest something with a...
Read moreToo bad I can't leave less stars. We had high hopes for this place, but it was the worst meal in 5 weeks of traveling Europe. The waiter spoke perfect English, but was pushy and rude. We ordered a Ribeye and tbone. He mumbled something suddenly about the tbone and then started talking about the weights. I took the smaller 350g. We waited for 1 hour for the medium rare steaks to finish. We drank our entire bottle of very high price and not very good wine in that time. The ribeye was tough and cold, the tbone came out as a tomahawk steak that was the HIGHEST PRICED ON THE MENU! I told him i washed the tbone because i didn't want the tomahawk because it's just all bone and you pay, per gram at this place! The 75g of steak was over 50 Euro and he knew what he had done. It was also well done! The sides of vegetables we ordered had absolutely no flavor, no salt, no pepper, nothing... Anyways, the waiter tried to blame the fact that he brought the wrong product on me. I even pointed to the steak i wanted and he shook his head yes. They have on their menu a small Caesar salad for 20 euro.
They try to trick tourists here. Do not go. Bled had work restaurants besides this....
