We had been to this restaurant in 2019 on a driving trip via Ljubljana to Croatia. It was a lovely restaurant so I checked on Tripadvisor to see if it was still open via recent reviews. I was going to book it again for this trip but was a bit put off, not by the reviews of the food but of a rude waiter that kept cropping up! So didn’t bother booking. The day before coming to Ljubljana I changed my mind, sent an email, reply was, fully booked! Oh no, so I sent another email saying any cancellations please ring and gave them my number, they said ok.
On the day we arrived I didn’t hear anything so went along at 4pm. Luckily I spoke to a tall dark and handsome really lovely waiter called Chris, he said of course! He was super helpful and managed to get me a table outside at 7.30pm that night, I could have kissed him, LOL! We had Chris as our waiter that night, he was very attentive and even tried to find the wine we had 3 years ago, we had kept the bottle as it was such an unusual shape, he knew the wine but unfortunately they only have it in white, we had red before, so he found something similar. The food was just as delicious as the last time we went and I would thoroughly recommend the food and of course a big thanks to Chris our lovely polite tentative waiter who made it extra special. So another night where I managed to get the restaurant I...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Valvasor, and I was very impressed with the entire experience.
The service at Valvasor was also top-notch. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list, and he was happy to make recommendations. He was also very attentive and made sure that we had everything we needed.

Read moreService was superb. Food was great and about the same price as the sister restaurant Julija next door!
We ate next door at Julija and liked it enough to go a second time— but no room for reservation! So we made one here. The food was just as good, but there were some more special dishes on the menu, like the excellent foie gras with pear. Also served an amuse bouche.
We asked for wine recommendations. What the waiter poured first my husband liked but I did not. He tried another for me and I liked it. On the bill— his first choice wine was cheaper. So, he knows his wine and listened to what we liked and was price sensitive on our behalf.
Risotto with scallop and truffle — yum
Beef with cheese struckli and mushrooms : cooked as requested ( rare) and the struckli was excellent—light dough layers and lots of filling.
2 glasses of wine, 2 mains, and one appetizer came to 88 euros. Others rate this restaurant as 50 euros and up, and if you get the price fixed multi course offer it will be, but this restaurant can also be a very high-end meal with a reasonable price.
