We had a very upsetting and painful experience at La Taperia in El Nacional on June 4th, 2025 around 9:10 PM. A very careless waiter spilled boiling hot sauce on my husband’s and our friend’s legs while serving the table behind us. My husband suffered a second-degree burn.
The restaurant’s reaction was completely insufficient — just a quick “sorry” and the excuse that “it was an accident.” I asked them to take responsibility and at least provide burn cream. They initially refused. As I ran to a pharmacy myself, one staff member followed me and offered to pay — but only for one cream, even though there were two people injured and we were staying separately. We insisted we needed two, but they still said, “No, one is enough.”
Afterwards, we had to purchase additional creams and sterile gauze ourselves, which created unexpected extra costs. The wound has still not fully healed, and we will have to visit a doctor once we return home.
My husband also couldn’t swim for the rest of our trip due to infection risk — our vacation was significantly affected.
Accidents can happen, yes — but how you handle them shows your true character. We expected far better responsibility and care from such a well-known establishment. Incredibly...
Read moreTapas restaurant in El nacional. It is not more than a touristic place. Tourists who will try tapas for the first time will like this place. There are places where you can eat excellent tapas much cheaper. It is a preferred place for its atmosphere. Normally, we are not someone who prefers too much touristic places. We were mesmerised by the atmosphere of this place and wanted to try it. But I think it is definitely a place that should not be preferred to eat tapas. I haven't tried the other places in El nacional. But I don't think it will be very different because they are touristic places. Maybe, you can just have a drink.
Back to the tapas restaurant comment, the service and attention of the staff was good. We ordered different tapas and octopus. The portions were very small and the food called hot was almost cold. We had to heat it up. The octopus might have been the worst octopus I have ever eaten. The others were not bad either. The prices were very expensive. You pay for the atmosphere, not the flavour. I would like to state that there are places where you can have much better food at these prices. I recommend you to think before you go.
Nevertheless, despite everything, my girlfriend and I had a...
Read moreI NEVER had such a bad restaurant experience during a vacation.
We were a group of people eating dinner here and one of us ordered tomato bread, a simple dish most restaurants offer in Barcelona. What this person got was 4 pieces of untoasted bread and 2 whole unwashed tomatoes with dirt still on them.
I was going for the garlic shrimps which, regarding the menue, is a dish "to share" and that's why it's more expensive than the other tapas. I got a plate with about 10 shrimp and it didn't even taste good. A day earlier we were at another restaurant and it tasted 10 times better there and was way cheaper, too!
Another person was ordering the patatas bravas and they also were disappointing. I took one bite and there was no flavor that made me want to continue.
Even the staff's behavior was unpleasant. When bringing food, they didn't make any attempts remembering to which person it belonged but just threw it in the middle of the table instead.
Save your money, folks and go somewhere else. You will get...
