It's too bad because the food at this place was actually decent. However, the service and potential racism really soured our experience. We didn't find the portions to be as small as others have described. They were a bit overpriced, but that comes with the territory of being in a touristy area.
The croquetas de jamon, buñuelos de bacalao, grilled octopus, and gambas al ajillo were all really delicious. The octopus was actually the best I had in Barcelona, and I ordered it at several really great restaurants.
Unfortunately, the service really ruined it for us. Follow me for a minute. We came during the late afternoon when many other places were closed. We wanted a happy hour type spot with patio seating. When we arrived, they only had one table and it was the only one not under the two large umbrellas. Given that it was August, it was very hot. We asked the server if we could move the table about a meter so we'd be in the shade. She said it was not problem. Then this angry man comes out of the restaurant and starts berating her.
After about a half hour, the sun shifted and we were completely out of the shade. We asked our server if we could move to a now open table under one of the umbrellas. She said it was not problem, so we moved. Then the man comes out yelling at us and telling us we need to "calm down and stop moving." He then proceeds to move the umbrella, supposedly so that another customer would not be in the sun. However, she was already in the shade and the result was that we were no longer in the shade and were completely in the sun.
Eventually, I asked him if he could please move one of the other umbrellas so that we would not be in the sun, as he had done for the other woman. He argued with me that we were not in the sun, despite me pointing out that my shadow was clearly visible and the only way that would be possible is if I were in the sun. He begrudgingly accommodated, but first sarcastically mocked me for my request. It was especially telling that when we told our other server that he was very rude, she simply responded, "I know."
All in all, the food was actually decent, but this one employee (owner?) really ruined our experience. I mention racism because my wife was the one Black customer there. He seemed to be particularly agitated toward her and especially accommodating toward all of the other customers. It's very sad to see this and this was the only such experience we've had...
Read moreStay away from this place. We sat down and politely ordered some drinks and tapas, and this older waitress came yelling to buy some REAL FOOD from the menu not just tapas (?) so anyway, we ordered a lot of food and she seemed very relieved as she was clearly money hungry. But then she decided to have the last word and ‘school’ me one more time by telling me what I’m supposed to be eating since it’s already 8pm, which is ‘REAL FOOD’ and kept yelling and gesticulating in a very non-sophisticated way that immediately cut mine (and probably other peoples) appetite. Again, I get that this is not a 5 star place, but things got very Oliver Twist with this lady real fast. At this point we leave, people are staring in shock and she goes full on ghetto. I understand the salaries are low here and staff is maybe untrained or even lacking basic education often coming from third world areas with no training, but everyone was staring at the screaming low pitched older waitress woman as she kept yelling in my year to BUY MORE FOOD. If she would have made a polite suggestion we would have gladly stayed, but this looked more like an aggressive beggar than a server. It ended up stressing everyone there as she wouldn’t stop yelling, I don’t know if it was trauma or some mental disorder, but if you are looking for a nice terrace to enjoy some drinks and food I highly recommend you go elsewhere. A good reminder that not everyone is a professional or enjoying their spare time. I would have expected this behavior from a drug addict, but not a restaurant in Barcelona. I do hope the manager takes note and hires better people, and spares other people the...
Read more16€ for 9 small pieces of iberico ham. Those prices does not feel good. We payed a lot for small portions and long waiting time.
When me and a friend went there, there was problems with the bank terminals. They could not take card. This is fair enough, but the waiter's reaction on this crisis left us unsatisfied. He ran around the tables on the terrace telling everyone "5 minutes, 5 minutes". He did so without ever taking the orders back to the restaurant. Even after telling him that we got cash, he told us 5 minutes and continued to convince the other tables to stay.
We waited 1 hour when my friend walked into the restaurant asking for our order, they had not gotten it. After asking for it, we got our tapas in 5-10 minutes. Waiting a whole hour for tapas never feel good. Even it this situation, my friend was questioned for saying "hola" in an unsatisfied tone. My friend was angry, i am disappointed.
It was easy to order gluten free, but that doesn't help when the tapas takes an...
