Eating at Jota Batela is truly a unique experience each time you go. Because the chef focuses on the seasonal flavors and available ingredients in the local market, the menu is never static and changes frequently, offering delightful surprises to everyone who partakes. That said, the quality of the food never changes, as it is always at its highest, and the service remains consistent and exceptional. I joined a friend for dinner at Jota Batela, and we thought the restaurant design was authentic to Madrid and the bright yellow walls felt cheery and welcoming. The rustic wood floors, mixed with the wood tables and railings added warmth. We started with an assortment of Iberian ham and sausage selection. The meat was salty, tender, and delicious. The different sausages each had a distinct flavor and there was a nice mix. We also tried anchovies with black and green olives in vinegar, which was not as salty as it sounds. Instead, it was a nice balance of salt and bitter flavors balanced by the tang of the vinegar. Grandma’s Meatballs were possibly my favorite, as they tasted tender, homemade, and juicy. They’re cooked to perfection, and were a great mix of meat and seasoning. My friend loved her beef cheeks in cider, saying the meat was braised just enough to make it succulent and moist, with a delicious flavor. I thought my grilled sea bream with olive oil and garlic was simple but done well. Completely delectable. I opted to try the traditional rice pudding for dessert, and shared with my friend. It was creamy and sweet, with a hint of spice to bring out the flavor. My friend and I both agreed that we can’t wait to see what the next season brings, as Jota Batela’s ingredients based menu is delicious every time!

I stumbled across this bar on my way back to my apartment and what a hidden gem it turned out to be. The food was outstanding—the meatballs were the best I’ve had in Spain (I’d love the homemade recipe!) and the tomatoes were absolutely divine. Drinks come with bread and Spanish omelette, which felt so generous, and the omelette itself was excellent. The atmosphere adds to the experience, making it feel like a truly authentic local Spanish spot. Highly recommend!

I was in Madrid for a few days and wanted to go eat at a typical Madrid place and they gave me this brochure for the Jota Batela tavern. I decided to try the Amaiketako lunch since that way I could taste traditional dishes. I was delighted with the quality of the food, the price and the attention of the staff who served me very kindly.

If you are looking for authentic local cuisine with reasonable price, do not hesitate to come here. I took delicious salmorejo, tortilla de bacalao and arroz con leche. Service is nice and very friendly. Although the table service needs improvement (with tablecloth would be better), I rate 5 because this restaurant must survive the surrounding competition in the very center of Madrid. Thanks for the nice time &...
