On our last morning before flying out, we walked over to this spot from our hotel. It felt like a true neighborhood hangout—one of those places where everyone seems to know each other. The man behind the counter, who appeared to be both the server and the cook, greeted his regulars by name and had their orders going before they even sat down. Most of the customers looked like locals grabbing a quick breakfast before heading to work.

We arrived right as they opened, and the menu was simple but classic. We had toast with crushed tomato, fresh-squeezed orange juice, coffee, and churros—nothing fancy, just fresh and satisfying. Homemade food that isn't fancy but is tasty. The waiter spoke almost no English and the menu del dia was all in Spanish. We ordered based on what people around us were eating (they were mostly eating items from the del dia) and with google translate. Desgraciadamente la foto que aparece en google maps no hace justicia a este local. Es una pena. Si bien es cierto que es un local con solera, no se le puede negar que tiene una cocina más que decente. Situado en mejor sitio imposible, podrás disfrutar de lo que, para mi, es una de las mejores tortillas de patata que he comido. La comida en general es más que buena, con un producto de una cierta calidad, sin tampoco grande lujos. Buena calidad a un precio más que contenido para estar donde está. Las instalaciones pues... bueno, antiguo pero limpio. El servicio es magnífico. Camareros de los de toda la vida, atentos y serviciales y sobre todo muy profesionales. No es peloteo, es la verdad. Por lo tanto, si vas a visitar el Museo del Prado y luego a disfrutar de un paseo por el Retiro y no tienes claro donde comer por la zona (porque es una zona realmente cara), este es el sitio perfecto.
