MAR I LUZ BAR RESTAURANTE — Restaurant in Palma

Lovely food, shame about the service: surly waiter, brought us the wrong main course and stood for some time apparently refusing to take the plate from me as I offered it back, looking as if he wanted to kill me! Didn't take it personally - I saw him treat several other customers the same. No apologies. The other staff were at least not hostile, but not especially welcoming either. There are low seats with drinks tables along the perimeter of the terrace with some partial views over the waterfront (it is high up but it is several streets back from the sea) - but the dining tables are set back - nice, but no views. The canopy over the terrace is a series of sails with gaps between so you may still end up sitting in the sun for a period as it moves - take a hat and sunblock or sit inside if you think you will overheat. It's a convenient place to eat but there are also some nice looking restaurants further up the waterfront toward the town - if you don't want to battle with hostile...

A hidden gem, the bar staff offer excellent service and a lovely chilled vibe with a number of comfortable sofa areas and fantastic views upto Bellever Castle and over the port (on the Fri night we were there a live DJ also). Dinner in the restaurant was a mixed bag with our group sharing a few various starters (squid, croquettes & tomato with Anchovies) and then a main each; the tuna tataki that I had was very tasty and nicely presented and my friends fillet steak seemed to go down well (albeit a little lacking on presentation). Regrettably though my wife had the duck and friend the fish, both of which commented that the dishes were somewhat bland and lacked veg. The setting and ambience was nice and service like the bar was excellent, attentive but not rushing us. Set in a beautiful location, we stumbled across this restaurant while walking in Palma. We must have moved tables 4 times because of only because able to order drinks/food at certain tables in the restaurant (this wasn’t clear to customers). The waiter didn’t write anything down that we ordered. Our drinks were forgotten, and when we asked they thought we were re-ordering the drinks we never received so got charged twice. The chicken was so fatty it was inedible, and one of the main courses never even arrived so someone went hungry. When we tried to explain the waiter was rude and just spoke to me on Spanish, despite speaking in English to us up until this point.
