I was told that one cannot visit Sweden without experiencing good fika, and that Vete-Katten was the place to go to try authentic Swedish fika.

So of course, this is where we had to go to, and given how busy this cafe was, particularly with the locals, and how many people continued to stream in during our visit, clearly a lot of people agree.

We got the most traditional desserts, the Princess cake and the Budapest, and I also got the open-faced shrimp toast, as well as coffee.

The food was amazing. The cakes are made with fresh cream, and I appreciated how the sweetness of the fresh cream and marzipan in the Princess cake contrasted with the tartness of the berry compote. But I adored the Budapest and the nuttiness of the hazelnuts amidst the fresh cream. The shrimp toast comprised a generous portion of fresh shrimp cocktail, a whole boiled egg and vegetables on bread. It was delicious as well.

Coffee was definitely one of the better ones we’ve had here as well.

Service-wise, you queue to order at counter and collect your food and coffee when ready. But it’s fast and efficient and I really can’t complain.

This is definitely a place I would recommend for the quintessential Swedish...

I had quite a high expectation for this place, but I was underwhelmed. We went on a Sunday around noon to have a bite before going to the airport. The place is mega packed and very noisy. If you want to have a quiet conversation, this is not the place to do that. The place looks quite majestic with its hanging chandeliers and has a classical vibe.

We ordered a Hot chocolate, a Chai Latte, the famous Cinnamon/Cardamon Bun and a Carrot cake.

The drinks were ok, but nothing special. The hot chocolate was foamy but served on the colder side. Hot chocolate is always better served very hot, especially since it cools down much faster than tea or coffee. The Chai was good but again served on the colder side.

I had high expectations for the cinnamon/Cardamon bun as I had read that it was one of the best in Stockholm. In my opinion it was average at best. It was on the dry side and lacked the fluffy and moistness of an amazing cinnamon bun. One of the best ones I’ve had were in Copenhagen (Juno). The Carrot cake was well done: it was fluffy, moist, creamy topping. It was the best item I...

Vete-Katten is hands down one of the best cafés I’ve tried so far. While it leans a bit towards a commercial feel, the vibe is incredibly trendy and welcoming—a true Scandinavian gem where people of all age groups gather to enjoy. The café has an impressive range of pastries, and I had two types of Semla -like treats filled with the same traditional almond cream: one traditional and the other with traditional bun. Both were absolutely delightful! The coffee was smooth and perfectly complemented the pastries.

The cutlery and tableware are beautiful, adding a touch of charm to the experience. While the service follows the typical self-service style common across Scandinavia, it didn’t take away from the overall experience. The location is also super convenient, close to T-Centralen and a tunnelbana station, making it easily accessible.

Despite it being very crowded on a Sunday evening (understandably so), the wait for a spot—around 15 minutes—was worth it. The quality of the food and the lively atmosphere made it an amazing experience overall. Highly...

Walking into Vete-Katten, a cozy spot, I was immediately drawn to its charming decor and mouthwatering treats. But here's the scoop: ordering can be a bit confusing, especially if you're new. There's no sign or helpful staff to guide you through the process. You're supposed to order at the cashier and grab what's ready to eat. Also, who knew you could refill your coffee? Not me! That info would've saved me some confusion. Now, onto the seating situation – it's packed! Waiting for a spot can feel like forever, and honestly, no bakery is worth that much wait. When my food finally arrived, it was delicious, no doubt. But here's the kicker – it's pricey. Like, seriously overpriced for what you get. In a nutshell, Vete-Katten has its charms, but the confusion around ordering, the wait for seating, and the steep prices left me with mixed feelings. With a little more clarity and reasonable pricing, it could be a real winner.
