This review concerns only the cheapest item on the Wine & Beef menu: the $24 Classic Burger (or 22 Swiss francs in local currency). I've already had the steaks there, and they're OK but nothing special. But my 'Classic Hamburger' was truly a disappointment, and would have been expensive at half the price.
Basically, it's a rather small beef pattie on an extra-large sesame bun, drenched in a sweetish yellowish sauce, with some melted cheese, tomato slices, lettuce, and a strip of bacon.
I asked for a medium, rather than rare, burger. But mine was pretty rare. The bun looked good, but it was cold, and so soggy that the bottom half started to disintegrate. The strip of bacon was also soggy, and it was a surprise not mentioned on the menu. So beware if you avoid pork.
I've been a burger fan since childhood, have eaten them everywhere, and frequently make very good ones at home. This one was really not worth eating. I left most of the bun and much of the sauce. The french fries were good, though. A small portion served in a fancy-looking cup.
The service was pleasant, but not very efficient. Took 10 minutes to bring us some ketchup for the fries. And and other 10 minutes for a second cup of expresso (quite good).
Sorry to be negative, but this item really should not be on the restaurant's menu. If you go there, stick...
Read moreFood is very good, service hit and miss. I love their entrecote, and I love the pepper sauce. Love it to bits. However there is no justification for refusing to serve tap water to clients who have already raked up a bill of multiple hundreds of franks. There simply is none. It's bad business. The service also does not offer an explanation. You ask if you can have a caraffe d'eau and you are told "we don't do that". Some waitresses are superb, some are really poor and unfriendly. Also, the last time I was there, the male manager kept on slamming the cupboards so loud, I don't understand how someone can be so oblivious to such noise. I almost felt like shouting at him to stop making noise! Also, the french fries are ALWAYS shabby, they are never crisp. I go twice or...
Read moreWine and beef is a small restaurant chain launched some years ago by the same owner of Arthur's river gauche (and formally the creator and owner of the popular club Arthur's where the X and Y generation use to dance every weekend). You will find there the same care and attention into details than Arthur's river gauche. It is a meat place however vegan and non beef eater will be pleased as you have the choice of other dish than beef. As for the meat , quality is very good always properly done . You can pick regular or organic beef , very nice choice of wine by the glass (the even have Cos d'Estournel by the glass). Definitely the right place if you are craving for meat or just need a quick meal while you are in the center of Geneva. Will come back again ...
