Yesterday at noon, we arrived in Interlaken from Leukerbad by train and had our first meal at this Chinese restaurant. Let me first talk about the three dishes we ordered, all of which had major issues. My boyfriend ordered the beef stir-fried noodles, which had no flavor. I tasted a small bite and it had a damp, unpleasant taste. The beef was completely masked by soy sauce, hiding its original color. I didn’t give it much thought at the time.
I ordered the twice-cooked pork, but the meat was pitifully scarce and the vegetables had a wilted taste. The pork was even burnt in places, and shockingly, the vegetables were cold, with the carrots completely uncooked. The Peking duck was average, clearly a frozen product, so I won’t say much more about it.
After we finished the meal, my boyfriend started feeling uncomfortable and went back to the hotel. By 5 p.m., he had slept for five hours, developed a fever, and started vomiting and diarrhea, clutching the toilet. He threw up continuously throughout the night, up to eight times, even vomiting bile. The strange thing is, we had breakfast that morning at an upscale five-star hotel at 8 a.m. with no issues, just a typical croissant and ham. But after eating at this restaurant around 3 p.m., the food poisoning symptoms began. The next day, he also had a fever.
The following morning, I went to Fuk Kee’s kitchen. I saw that the beef in their fridge was from December 2nd, and now it was January 10th. The male owner said it had been stored in the fridge the whole time without freezing, but the female owner claimed it was only recently thawed. This raised some suspicions. I also saw the vegetables, including carrots and scallions, were wilted and had lost all their moisture.
In conclusion, I strongly advise avoiding this place. Our original travel plans were ruined because of the poor food quality at Fuk Kee. This restaurant in Interlaken has managed to make Chinese food that is not only unpleasant but also potentially dangerous. When I confronted the owners in the kitchen, their responses were inconsistent. They tried to shift the blame, suggesting we weren’t drinking enough water, or that the altitude was the cause, or maybe we had trouble adjusting to the local environment. I have to ask—how is it possible that my boyfriend, who regularly runs half-marathons and is over six feet tall, got food poisoning after coming down from 2,000 meters in altitude? 福记 showed no remorse, so I’m...
Read moreWe stumbled upon this quaint shop in Interlaken, Switzerland, purely by chance while roaming the streets. After a long holiday in Italy and Switzerland, we were so excited to finally enjoy authentic Asian Chinese cuisine—and it did not disappoint!
It was also so comforting to speak Mandarin with the two young family members of the owner, and to taste genuine Cantonese food in this family-owned restaurant. The food is delicious, aromatic, and seasoned perfectly. Their prawn fried rice is outstanding—粒粒分明, like pearls, each grain coated in silky egg, with big, crunchy, and tasty prawns. The tomato with egg is equally comforting and full of flavor.
I hope this lovely family continues to do well—it is definitely not easy sustaining a restaurant here while sourcing quality fresh ingredients. Their fried rice is honestly comparable to popular Canto Paradise. A hidden gem in Interlaken for anyone craving authentic Chinese...
Read moreThe staff is very very friendly and the service is good! However, we asking for the starter platter for 2 people, which was honestly a joke, we even asked if the plate was for 1 or 2 people and apparently it’s for 2, but if you only put on 1 thing of each and even cut a spring roll in half totaling 5 tiny pieces it’s a bit of a joke to pay 16CHF. Then the duck and the noodles were okay but far from close to being good. The duck was pretty dry and the noodles with chicken didn’t had much flavor to be honest. And then especially when you pay 36CHF for duck you expect something good.
It’s most likely a bit of a tourist trap, check out some place a little further from the center and you’ll find fair prices and way...
