I thought I could go and have a cold beer anywhere without any obligation to buy drinks for girls. I politely declined after two girls approached me asking for drinks. They left angrily, cursing in Thai because I refused. They even told one of the waitresses that I hadn't invited them. The waitress then approached me and explained that this is a bar where people come to flirt, so what? Can't I just have a beer? I've been here before and have bought drinks for girls. I live in Bangkok and know how things work. I just wanted to sit at the bar, mind my own business, and watch people pass by, but it seems that's not possible without buying drinks, or you'll be frowned upon by both the waitresses and the girls at the bar.
I don't mind the girls approaching to ask, but it's rude when they insult you in Thai if you politely decline. And for the waitress to approach me to explain the social norms here — why come to the bar if not to entertain the girls, suggesting I shouldn't be here at all? What the hell? Yes, it's the Stumble Inn at the corner of Nana Plaza.
As I said, I've been here before, and this never happened to me. The experience was pretty bad, and I felt pressured to either leave or buy drinks...
Read moreSo, here I am again at my daily stop at Stumble. Several weeks ago I tried the hamburger which was a mess. With a bit of an appetite tonight I thought I would give them another shot. I played it safe and order chicken strips and spring rolls. How can I possibly go wrong right? Wrong! What I received was two plates of charcoal. The only way to tell one from the other was by their shape. Totally unedible. I brought this to the attention of the waitress and she gracefully apologized and said they would try again. I told her that I did not want to eat and that prompted a visit from the same manager who was so kind during my burger fiasco. This time he was anything but kind telling me I had to pay cash for my beer before they would take the food charges off my bill. To add insult to injury he further went to tell me if I wasnt happy I could go somewhere else. Unbelievable! To make matters worse....when she wasn't putting makeup on she would glare at me from her table and mouth words to me I could not interpret. I guess I will take the manager's advise and land elsewhere. I realize the owner is making money hand over fist but in lean times local and loyal customers...
Read moreLast night ordered a burger and fries from another bar, that was prepared by stumble inn. It was excellent! I was actually surprised by how deliscious it was. So this morning I decided to go with a Western breakfast, been awhile since I'd had an omelette. Ordered 3egg omelette with ham, and a side of bacon. Omelette showed up with no bacon on the side. She brought it back to kitchen and came back and assured me it was inside the omlette..... so, we dissected the omelette and found no bacon-only ham. A man came out and they discussed it for awhile, I think they realised it was a mistake, and apologized. (There can be alot of confusion concerning bacon vs ham.) End of the story is-no bacon ever showed up, but I DID have to pay for it. Welcome...
