Kub Kaoâ Kub Pla is a must try for all Thai cuisine fans. We passed this restaurant several times and every day we saw a long queue of people seated outside the restaurant. So the best time to come is around 11am when they just open so that you will be seated rather than wait for a table. Dishes ordered for lunch were : Deep Fried Baby Shrimps with Betel Leaves (Starter), Spicy Papaya Salad with Salted Egg, Stir Fried Melinjo Leaves with Eggs and Crab Meat Omelette. The Deep Fried Baby Shrimp is very flavourful, crispy bite sized shrimp morsels, fried to perfection and seasoned with herbs and spices. The inside is tender and succulent and it comes with a sweet and spicy peanut and cucumber sauce. The Papaya Sauce is a dish here that is not comparable to the Thai Papaya Salads in Singapore or Malaysia. This is the authentic Thai style where the papaya and ingredients are fresh and every bite is crunchy and refreshing. The tiny shrimps are tasty and crispy that you can eat the shells too. The salted egg gives it a nice âliftâ. We enjoyed the simple yet flavourful Melinjo leaves stir fried with garlic. The slightly bitter taste blended well with the savoury eggs. The best dish on the table was the Crab Meat Omelette. Fluffy and tender filled with lumps of succulent crab meat. The sweetness of the crab meat complemented the wrapped fluffy yet crispy egg omelette. Never in my life have I eaten so much crab meat at one sitting ! The crab meat omelette was served with a sweet and sour sauce that enhances its taste. For dessert we had their Taro Pearls in sweet coconut milk which was served warm and had yam pearls, yam cubes and slices of coconut . The fresh mango & sticky rice, a truly Thai classic did not fail to please our taste buds. We will return to try the other offerings...

We stopped by Kub Kaoâ Kub Pla at CentralWorld for lunch, and while the experience had a few bumps, it still offered some memorable highlights.
The star of the meal was definitely the Southern Thai Crab Curry with Butterfly Pea Vermicelli. The crab meat was tender and fresh, and the southern-style curry packed a rich, spicy punch. Pouring the curry over the vibrant butterfly pea vermicelli gave each bite a delightful blend of heat and floral aroma â beautifully balanced and visually striking.
We also had the Stir-Fried Chinese Kai Lan with Crispy Pork, a classic dish we usually enjoy. The pork was nicely crisped, but we found the overall flavour a bit flat. It lacked the salty umami kick from the salted fish paste â the chef had added too little, which was disappointing given how much it could have elevated the dish.
Lastly, we had the Deep-Fried Seabass with Fish Sauce, although it arrived late due to a forgotten order by the waitress. While the fish itself was fresh and well-cooked, it was heavily salted, which made it overly intense. It came with a separate side of shredded green mango, red onions, and fish sauce â very tangy and sharp, almost overwhelming. We wished we had gone with the grilled or steamed version instead.
Service felt rushed due to the crowd, and though the staff were polite, we were slightly let down by the missed order and the lack of any gesture to smooth over the delay â even something small like a complimentary dessert or ice cream wouldâve gone a long way.

If youâre looking for authentic Thai cuisine paired with an unforgettable lesson in how not to treat customers, look no further than Kub Kao Kub Pla at CentralWorld.
My recent visit during dinner service was memorable for all the wrong reasons. While the menu boasts a promising selection of classic Thai dishes, the real standout of the evening was the restaurantâs manager on duty, Ms. Panovan Khangoang. Her approach to customer service was nothing short of avant-garde â blending rudeness, impatience, and an alarming lack of professionalism into a truly unique dining experience.
As tourists unfamiliar with every nuance of Thai cuisine, we asked a few reasonable questions about the flavors and ingredients before placing our order. Apparently, this was a grave offense. Ms. Khangoang responded with visible irritation, curt explanations, and a tone that suggested we shouldâve either been born in Thailand or left our curiosity at the door.
Itâs reassuring to know that at Kub Kao Kub Pla, confusion about a dish isnât met with helpful guidance â itâs met with disdain. Because nothing enhances the dining experience quite like feeling like an unwanted guest for asking about your food.
Needless to say, the food might have been decent â itâs just hard to enjoy it when itâs served with such palpable contempt.
In summary: if you enjoy passive-aggressive hospitality and being made to feel like a nuisance for asking questions, this is the place for you. Otherwise, Bangkok has no shortage of restaurants where both the food and the staff are far...
