We ordered the mushroom tempura, shunmi hotate (scallops) and the sashimi and nigiri set.
The mushroom tempura was done delicately, the tempura batter fried to perfection, crispy yet light, enveloping the juicy assorted mushrooms within.
The shunmi hotate (scallops) was plated very aesthetically, paired with a side of chips. The chips were crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, while the scallops were paired with assorted vegetables and three different sauces. The sauces, although seemingly conflicting, played a beautiful ensemble on my tastebuds, each one standing out but never overpowering.
Finally the sashimi and nigiri set was the most stunning. As in the photo, it comes in a most beautiful wooden box, and contained a very wide range of fish, including (left to right): Sea bream, yellowtail, salmon, chuutoro (fatty) tuna sashimi; Sea bass, salmon, sea bream, toro, fatty salmon; Akami tuna, fatty salmon, yellowtail, scallops and surf clam.
All the sashimi and nigiri were very tasty, and very fresh. The quality of the set was very high, and is the best sushi I have had in London. The price was also very reasonable for the amount, and I am very happy about the entire dining experience.

Akatuki in Covent Garden is a true hidden gem for lovers of authentic Japanese cuisine. From start to finish, every dish showcased incredible craftsmanship, premium ingredients, and deep respect for traditional flavors.
We began our meal with Sea Urchin (Uni), a delicacy known for its rich, creamy texture and umami-packed depth. This was followed by Wagyu beef with crispy tempura shiso leaf, an exquisite combination of melt-in-your-mouth tenderness and delicate crunch. The Bluefin Tuna Sashimi (Hon Maguro) was equally impressive, beautifully marbled and sliced to perfection, allowing its natural sweetness to shine.
For the main course, I had grilled eel (Unagi), masterfully prepared with a caramelized tare sauce and grilled over charcoal, enhancing its smoky-sweet complexity. We also enjoyed expertly made sushi rolls, a comforting bowl of miso soup, and finished with a smooth, velvety matcha ice cream, perfectly balancing sweetness and earthy bitterness.
Beyond the food, the ambiance at Akatuki is refined yet welcoming, with attentive service that reflects true Japanese hospitality. Whether you’re a sushi connoisseur or simply appreciate beautifully crafted dishes, this restaurant is a must-visit in London.
