This is a really spacious Wetherspoons, just a 3–5 minute walk from Tower Bridge. When you walk in, one of the first things you notice is how many tables there are, but also how much space they’ve left for walking around. Classic big Wetherspoons vibe, really. They always seem to get the layout right.
The crowd is exactly what you’d expect: a few mates grabbing beers, a group of students sharing jugs of “cocktails” as it gets closer to the evening, couples popping in for a quick bite or drink before heading somewhere else, and of course, tourists just curious to try something cheap and cheerful. It all depends on the time of day as daytime is more chill, nighttime can definitely get a bit rowdier.
The staff are generally nice when you chat with them, though sometimes you can tell they’d rather be anywhere else, which, to be fair, I totally get. I’ve worked in a Spoons before, so I know how it goes! But when you do talk to them, they’re polite and just trying to get through the day. My advice? Don’t hassle them over nothing. Also, ever wonder why the staff turnover at Spoons is so high? It’s not just rude customers, it’s a lot of things. So yeah, be kind, even if someone looks a bit moody. They’re probably just tired, not annoyed at you 🙏
Only one thing to improve when it comes to staff, put two people on the bar as usually it’s on person while a few customers are forced to wait (in my case, 10+ mins) 🙏 + glasses are left outside a lot but I know how it is, it’s tiring to keep at it every minute of the day.
Now, the food, yeah, it’s mostly microwaved, but honestly, you know what you’re getting when you walk into a Spoons. It still tastes good, and I’ll never stop loving their onion rings. So good!
As for the drinks, they’re hit or miss. The beer selection isn’t the best, and a lot of the time it tastes a bit flat or just off, even if you know how it should taste. But again, you’re here for cheap drinks, not craft perfection. If you want something more reliable, stick to bottled drinks.
Still can’t believe Spoons serves wine from a tap though, wild 😂
All in all, this is a spot I visit regularly. I like the staff, the food still hits the spot, and I don’t mind the drinks. If you’re nearby, it’s a solid place for a quick pit stop.
And just to add, I used to work in Wetherspoons when I was younger, so I’ve seen the back-of-house side too. That’s definitely shaped how I look at things when I review places like this. I try to see it from both the staff’s and the customer’s...
Read moreWent on Sunday morning and asked for table service which is where we were sat, we then waited nearly 40 minutes to be served and ended up having to ask for our order to be taken. We were told this is why they urge people to use the app, but not everyone has access to it, and don't offer table service if you can't provide it??? You get given the option but when you pick table service you're basically told you shouldn't have and that you should expect to be left for so long?? Shortly after we ordered we watched another two tables have to ask to be served. In this time a man and another couple near us left for this same reason. It wasn't particularly busy and there seemed to be barely any staff about. The man with the black and white mask on who seated us and was behind the bar was rude and didn't care, we also heard another couple discussing this. After we ordered our food we waited another 40 minutes for it for arrive, again after having to go up to the bar and ask where it was to which the man was unbothered and careless, we were told it was sat waiting to be brought to us. Would definitely not go back purely because we had to sit and wait for SO long, as a waitress myself it is normal procedure to seat people and ask for their drink order then come back with drinks and order food, not leave them waiting for so long, I know its a Wetherspoons so the bar is low but wow that's the easiest part of the job!! We were offered another drink or a dessert for free, but we didn't accept because who knows how long that would've taken, we'd lost our appetites by the time the food came and in hindsight should've asked...
Read moreI have been to many weatherspoons, so I am aware and what to expect however with this branch is quite a let down. I came with my relative who came all the way from far east and decided to dine here for a lovely dinner. when we went to place an order at the bar, we were served by bar-tender with colour hair and obviously we were first but the bar tender question the gentleman behind us, if he was next, thinking we may have jumped in line ( there was only us and him at the time), then when we were asking what is traditional English beer he said he doesn't know as he doesn't drink beer, then after asking again, hoping he would be helpful / friendly, he then just pointed the tap at the end of the bar and told us to go take a look in a very rushy/rude manner. wasn't impress and being a food blogger dieponfood this wouldn't be a good post on my feed no matter how good the photo of the food looks esp When the food didn't look appealing in person, we ordered mix grill , bangers and mash, ham egg and chips and fish and chips, soft drinks and a pint of brown beer. I'm afraid the mix grill and ham egg and chips wasn't great, over cooked, very small cuts, ham was thin and dry, the beer wasn't fresh, warm. it was late and based on some staff attitude made us uncomfortable in even speaking to anyone. Prices are really good, despite the price at least have the food have to be better quality or cook properly. Location and price is good. however despite the above feedback has left one of my relative unwell. I'm afraid I wont be visiting this...
