A little store based around authentic street food of Egypt first opened in London in 2013 serving a selection of Egyptian streetfood classics, both savoury and sweet.
I have not seen or experienced many Egyptian restaurants in London and really should have more of these places in London as you will truly enjoy the food.
Classic Koshari (Classic Base, Tomato Sauce, Chickpeas, Garlic Da’aa Dressing, Fried Onions, Spicy Doqqa Nut Mix) - Pot of rice and pasta with a nice zesty and spiced tomato sauce. From the website it seems this is a national dish, sold on roadside stalls and restaurants throughout Egypt, captures the heart of the nation. Well I can’t wait to go to Egypt to see how authentic this is. But a great fresh taste with enough spice and kick and full of flavour and texture.
THE VERDICT: An impressive little place to eat and enjoy the various pots on offer, the food is delicious and nutritious and you cant say that with a lot of food these days. I want to go back and try the other dishes and would be top pick for a quick bite amongst the many of the usual offerings from the chain restaurants. Highly recommended. There should be more Egyptian places to eat and I for one will be looking...
Read moreI am a regular customer at this place, year after year I get really disappointed with the Quality and options available now. I went yesterday and the taste was awful compare with before. I used to enjoy it as home cooked food. Yesterday I couldn't even finished my portion, was taste less. Before they used to have everything separated and fresh (rice, pasta, lentils) now it is all mixed and mashed and the taste was disgusting .also they used to have 3 tomato sauces (normal, mild chilli and strong chilli 🔥), now only one option. They increased the price but DROP the quality massively. In addition, they have mulikhia, and they mix it with Koshari,...... disgusting.... I asked them if they have plain rice not mixed with pasta and lentil so I can eat it with mulikhia as traditionally we would eat it. I can not understand, you are asking people to eat something just out of availability NOT HOW IT IS SHOULD TO BE EATEN. I didn't like the concept that people do to know so let's mix it and give it to them and no one would know..... RESPECT YOUR CUSTOMER TASTE. I would be happy to pay extra if they kept that good standard, no more food at this place......
Read moreWalked by this small shop and was curious about Egyptian food so gave it a try. They have a menu of wraps and bowls, with some side salads and hummus. I ordered the non-veg meal deal for £12 which their chicken bowl with a small side salad of my choice (I got the one with pomegranite) and a drink of my choice. Unfortunately they didn't have the beef & lamb filling that day but hopefully they'll bring it back soon.
The chicken bowl was comforting and delicious, filled with macaroni pasta, rice, thin noodle pasta pieces, lentils, shredded chicken, fried onions, and a yogurt-based sauce. The pastas were a bit softer than I expected, which personally I was fine with since I like my pasta on the soft side but others may wish they were a bit more firm, as it became a bowl of soft on soft on soft, with a little bit of crunch from the fried onions.
The side salad was a nice palate cleanser, and their drinks were Pellegrinos and Orangina. Overall the meal deal was a great bargain and I'll definitely come again to try more...
