Borough Market is one of my favourite places on earth, and no visit there is complete for me without a visit to Monmouth Coffee. I love coffee, and will go out of my way to find a good coffee place, so I think i've tried a fair few different coffee types. For me, the Monmouth Coffee house blend is just perfect every time. Just the right strength and the bitterness to give it the flavour I like. So if you like great tasting coffee Monmouth Coffee is what to try, wherever it is sold.
This branch can be extremely busy, and is almost impossible to sit in, due to the families that take over the place on Saturdays, to devour their pastries and jam sandwiches and talk about their respective nannies and how Henry and Cressida and their charming little children are doing at kindergarten.
However, this is more of a takeaway coffee place, and the queues can snake around the corner as far as Neals Yard cheese shop. So be prepared to wait, which is fine on a sunny morning, but not so good when it's cold and wet. It is possible to get served quicker if you want to buy some beans or freshly ground coffee, from the small counter facing the market. There one of the seemingly never ending supply of quirky, intelligent and attractive girls will happily take your drinks order whilst serving you with the beans of your choice. You can even sample some of the many varieties of coffee beans that have, but please don't be like the family that were hogging the counter on my recent visit, and sampling practically every type they could and then only buying 250g's of the cheapest type whilst ordering around 18...
Read moreWell hello there my fellow coffee aficionados! Let me tell you about my recent visit to Monmouth Coffee Company near Covent Garden, and boy was it a trip!
First off, let me just say that this place is SMALL. I mean, you could fit more people in a clown car than in the ordering area. But don't let that deter you, because what they lack in size, they more than make up for in quality coffee.
I opted for a flat white (because let's be real, who doesn't love a good flat white?), and it did not disappoint. It was like a warm, comforting hug in a cup. And the best part? It was organic, so I didn't have to feel guilty about indulging in my caffeine addiction.
They don't do takeout cups so you either have to drink on site or pay a deposit for a refillable coffee cup - which whilst eco friendly didn't seem the nicest option for people on the go.
Now, I will say that the queue outside was a bit daunting. But fear not, my friends! The staff were so cheerful and happy, it was like they were handing out puppies and rainbows instead of coffee. They were quick, efficient, and just downright delightful.
If you're lucky enough to snag a seat in the back or outside, you're in for a real treat. You can sip your delicious coffee and people watch to your heart's content. And let's be real, there are few things more entertaining than watching the hustle and bustle of Covent Garden.
All in all, if you're a coffee lover and in need of a pick-me-up, Monmouth Coffee Company is the place to be. Just make sure you bring your patience (and maybe a good book to...
Read moreMonmouth coffee is my favourite and it is the best coffee in London and by far. For many years now, precisely 25 years, I have regularly been buying the ground coffee and enjoying it at home. I have tried all the varieties that they offer and have settled on the Espresso Blend . As for the freshest coffee, it can be found at the Bermondsey Branch and equally their service is outstanding and by far better than anywhere else. The latest addition to Monmouth and they open Friday and Saturday. Borough Market's comes second and my least favourite branch is Covent Garden's although it is the closest to where I live. Most unfortunately, the manager there is very unprofessional and also is not a nice character. She always wants to push for selling the old coffee she has, at times it was 9-10 days since it has been roasted, and justifies it by saying: "I want to shift my stock" rather than being professional and selling what the customer wishes to buy and is paying for. It is not cheap. 1 kg is for £30. She is stubbornly dim and couldn't cope with a logical argument so instead she blamed one of her staff who was totally innocent. I stopped going there and now make the trip all the way to Bermondsey to buy what I want. Highly recommended!
In the past, Monmouth use to pride themselves in displaying the roasting dates of their various coffees, not anymore. Monmouth corporate policy has changed to over roast? then force sell what clients don't want? a take it and leave it policy?...
