Part of a larger chain of restaurants, Tas Bloomsbury most attractive feature is its location, sitting between Bloomsbury Street and Great Russel Street a short walk from the British Museum. The interior is modern with tightly packed tables offering street level seating, a basement level and outdoor seating. Upon entry you are faced with an open kitchen which can be slightly disorienting but always good to see the chef in action.
The menu options are extensive offering a a'la carte menu, a set menu, an ekin menu, a group menu and a dessert menu. Worth pointing out that there is only one set menu that can be ordered individually (the Renk menu comprised of Meze only priced at £13.95 per person). The rest of the set menu options require a minimum order of two people and are priced as high as £27.75 per person.
Tas is the sort of restaurant you would visit with a group of people instead of a two person meal as the menu and setup lends to sharing and groups. While the dishes include Turkish classics, there is a focus on casseroles and oven dishes. One of menu's biggest miss is the lack of lamb cutlets. Having visited for a late business lunch, with the floor sparsely populated, the service was cordial but imprecise.
The Kofte main for £12.65 included a lot of garnish and only four pieces of meat. The portion size was relatively small for the price. The stars of the lunch where unfortunately not the meat, but the fresh chili sauce and the dessert.
My suggestion to those considering a visit to Tas is to visit as part of a group and order from the set menu. The set menu is good value for money and while it will not be a memorable Turkish Delight it will...
Read more‼️完全不推薦‼️ ‼️Absolutely not recommended‼️ The blatant discrimination by the waitress was appalling. If she or the restaurant is so intent on treating people differently, perhaps putting up a sign would save everyone a lot of time and frustration.
The service was utterly disappointing, the worst I’ve ever experienced. After I ordered, the waitress rudely dropped the drinks menu onto my plate, displaying a complete lack of professionalism and making it clear she had no interest in serving us properly. When we realized she do have the ability to treat customers in a more professional way when she was serving the locals.
To make matters worse, when our food was ready, it sat on the counter for an unreasonably long time. The waitress ignored it entirely, and only after we stared at her did she gesture for another staff member to serve it.
After reading other reviews, it is evident that many customers have faced similar issues at this restaurant. At the very least, the waitress’s behaviour that day was anything but inclusive. Despite such recurring feedback, the restaurant appears unwilling to address the problem. Save yourself the frustration and avoid this place at all costs.
Edit:This is sad. While I appreciate the value of feedback, dismissing my experience as “unfounded claims” is both unhelpful and unprofessional. It’s disappointing that instead of addressing the issue, your response seeks to undermine a genuine concern. I would strongly suggest a more thorough review of how staff treat all guests, especially given the repeated comments from others about...
Read moreA little bit of a wait to be seen by the waiter for ordering of food after being seated, however the staff were really polite and cordial. Main waitress made it a point to greet and wish well on both entry and exit which was a memorable touch.
For Muslim customers please note that although the restaurant serves halal meat, some of its dishes are cooked with alcohol, so unless you enquire beforehand, there is no way of knowing that it is in the dish. Something the restaurant aught to state on their menu for ethical/ moral reasons. There is no excuse in this day and age to be serving your customers highly controversial ingredients such as alcohol without their being made aware. You wouldn’t covertly put peanuts into dishes and distress a group of people from amongst society that may have an allergy to it.
When very kindly explaining (for the first time only) how we wanted to be sure there was no alcohol in the dishes chosen (note everything on the menu is in Turkish names and my friend who is a non Muslim is avoiding alcohol) it was received by a icy silence which was not lost on anyone followed by a very long awaited “okay”. Almost as though common sense finally dawned over the guy.
If you mobility issues, unfortunately this will be an issue as you will be expected to use the stairs.
Over all food was cooked well, tasty and served hot. Quiet and casual ambience. Complimentary snacks. Affordable. Location is also convenient for tourists. Waiters...
