🚇 Cannon Street 🍺 £6.95 Asahi ❤️ A city pub tucked under a railway arch that overlooks the Thames. . The Banker is located at the bottom of Cousin Lane which is just off Upper Thames Street, Cannon Street is the closest tube station. The most picturesque way to get here is to walk along the Thames path which leads away either side of the pub. . One thing London is very good at is making good use of space and this place is no exception. This pub is built into a railway arch under the tracks that feed in to Cannon Street station. Either side of the entrance there are two patio spaces, if it’s a nice day the raised patio is the place to be as it has lovely views over the Thames. . As you enter the pub you’ll find a cavernous vaulted bar area with a few poser tables and diner style booths. Off the main bar there are two tunnel like arched seating areas that lead to a seating area overlooking the river. . This is a Fuller’s pub so you know the beers, wine and spirits are going to be top notch. I opted for a pint of Asahi, my pint was great and well received on this hot August day. There’s loads of hearty pub grub available here, Fish & Chips costs £17.15. . I stood outside with my pint and watched the coming and going’s of life on the Thames. The patio’s were packed so I stood over by the steps that lead down to the river, this is a great place to chill as the river laps up below you. . The @the_banker_fullers is a wonderful pub that’s full of character and a little bit of something different. I can’t recommend highly enough a walk down the Thames path then popping in here for a beer or two, a great experience. . ℹ️ Info correct on...
Read moreJournal, day 574: the rain just won't let up. I don't know how people live in this country! To console myself and my waning spirits, I've decided to visit a nearby boozery and treat myself to a local ale.
To my dismay, pub culture in London is such that finding a bar to cozy up to is easy, but finding space enough to cozy up to it is nigh impossible!
In utter defeat, I've decided to lope down Cannon Street, my feet bound for the water's edge and an end to this madness!
And that's when I stumbled upon The Banker. Cozied under the arches of Cannon Street Bridge, The Banker is a, well, cozy pub that offers all the space and luxury of a much larger establishment. Inside you'll find all of the standard London offerings, as well as a decent food menu. Not stand out aspects, on their own, for sure. However, the pub then goes on to wrap it all in a fantastic atmosphere. Layout is split between 3 levels, with the upper offering an intimate dining experience. The 2nd level avails even more options, with comfortable seating under old archways, as well as lovely views of the Thames.
To boot, the pub offers plenty of space to cater to busy nights. Rarely have I visited and not been able to find a place to stand, sit, or comfortably idle indoors or on the patio. I would recommend The Banker as a great place to stop for a pint, bring a date, or to lift your spirits and avoid an ill-advised plunge...
Read moreWe found The Banker by chance while walking along the Thames near Cannon Street—and honestly, it turned out to be one of our favorite pub stops in London.
Set right along the riverbank, the location is hard to beat. We grabbed a table outside, and the view was incredible—city lights on the water, the hum of passing boats, and that unbeatable London skyline right in front of us. It’s the kind of spot that makes you want to slow down and linger.
Inside, it’s got that sleek-but-cozy pub feel, mixing classic charm with a modern touch. The vibe was lively but not overwhelming—perfect for catching up, relaxing, or just watching the city move around you.
Service was quick and friendly, and the drinks list had a nice range of local brews, wines, and cocktails. We didn’t expect much from the food (as you sometimes don’t with riverside spots), but it surprised us—well-prepared, fresh, and a step above typical pub fare.
If you’re anywhere near the City of London, especially around EC4, The Banker is absolutely worth a visit—whether for a sunset drink or a casual meal...
