The Steel Yard Went to celebrate my husband's birthday, but I would never go again!

There were staff that helped increase my rating, but even till now, the night has left negative memories that I will always associate with the occasion.

Admittedly there was confusion between the venue and the promoters on the night, who were holding a one-off event, but as seasoned professionals, from the venue perspective, no additional prosecco other than the eight bottles that they reserved for guests?!? Who does that? And as for the drinks prices - I get that London bars charge highly for drinks, but to say we were birthday guests who secured space, the price for a bottle of brandy was ridiculously overpriced, which we paid in the end, but to say we had to wait for permission before it could be sold to us (presumably, to ensure vip guests got first choice, and to ensure they had the bottles in stock!) was truly eye-openingšŸ‘€ No complimentary free shots or anything.... .very wrong of me to expect I guess!

Having never been to this venue, based on my experience, I would assume that that the Steel Yard are small outfit, so that staff are not used to the energy and demands of the the clientele of this particular night, however looking at the size of the venue, in reality I do not believe this to be case, so can only put my bad experience down to I clearly rubbed people the wrong way with 'extrodinary' requests!

So to summarise my experience, do not expect much from the venue - if you are having a birthday, or have secured the vip area, or if the event promoter and venue have not communicated. Because, apart from the female who was in charge, (and even then I had to ask to see her), the service or communication will not rise above the ordinary. I have been to more local pubs that have shown more care or concern. If money is the main dictate for a better service at the Steel Yard, I can only say I am used to much better, having spent far less, and I should check the memo before going to a London venue in...

As a corporate hire venue this venue would work great for product launches and other events and will provide an exciting contrast to the many bland venues in the City.

As a club it also works incredibly well. Everything seemed very well organised. The venue has a main room with a fantastic sound system and in my opinion just the right size. There are 3 bars and several places to sit down and rest after a lot of dancing. Everything looks very new and the design is great, especially retaining some of the original features of the old railway arches and steel yard equipment so it has a somewhat industrial feel to it. In contrast to so many clubs in this one I felt very safe, emergency exits were easy to spot and there was a brand new emergency lighting system and the layout was easy to navigate. Security were efficient and courteous and processed a lot of people in no time. The bar staff were friendly and helpful and I never had to wait long. The cloakroom give you a wristband as a ticket, ingenious - you can't lose it that way! Ventilation was good and for those complaining well just remember each human produces at least 100W of heat; with 500 people that's 50kW or 68,000 BTUs per hour produced and it's incredibly hard to efficiently ventilate a venue with a heat production in a small space. I thought their system worked well and the temperature was warm but not hot. The bathrooms were really well lit, including inside the stalls which I greatly appreciated. There was a guy in a wheelchair but I am not sure exactly how accessible this venue is so best to call them...

Went to an event here at the weekend (Burning Mountain Pre Party). The venue is nicely presented and versatile. The main bar was closed off but that looked pretty nice and there were pool tables etc in that area. There were enough toilets for the event which was in the main room, kept clean and manned to keep on top of use.

Staff were pretty nice and there wasnt much of a queue at the bar. This may have been due to the daft drinks prices. A small bottle of beer was £5.50. Central London I guess.

Security staff were lovely. ID scan on the way in and a thorough pat down for weapons then they were always patrolling as well as a female medic going round making sure any girls sat alone were OK and happy. Very safe and friendly environment. Exiting they have a system so taxi people leave one way and walkers go down toward the Thames and back up. The guys on the door found out where the tubes were running for me and directed me to the best route home. Great service and extremely friendly.

The sound system is tremendous. We saw Fabio & Moon and the low end gave the music a hell of a punch. Some mid range got lost in all that bass but it wasnt over driven. Loud without being driven to death and sounded pretty great. I had my proguards in for most of the night but took them out for the main event and really enjoyed the system. Only issue is the archway with some reflections audible off the back wall. Might have helped if it had been busier.

I will definitely be keeping an eye out for events here in future. Great venue if a little hard...

Really rudely treated( even potentially racist) by cloak room staff- one of the cloak staff lady got the wrong jacket for me when I was about to leave the club, and even when I found out the jacket wasn’t mine and went back to her immediately, she couldn’t find my jacket and told me it was me giving her ā€˜the wrong wrist band’- (the wristbands to get jackets are tied to wrists, there is no way someone else’s wristband can appear on my wrist) since my jacket was black and could be identical to many others, she could not be bothered looking for mine again, while my wallet keys and important IDs were all in my jacket. Only until one of the men behind me started to question if the staff has lost my jacket, she bothered to look for my jacket again, and after finding it she told me ā€˜ just go I’m tired’ . I don’t want to think there was any racism involved, but I was one of the very few Asian customers that night and I was the only one by myself at that queue. I tried to defend myself but did not want to take other peoples time. I felt very upset and offended, and had a terrible time there. I would not go again and I night despise whoever treated me this way.

I had probably a different experience to most when visiting. I went when there was a train strike on, and basically the place was at 50% capacity I reckon, so I was able to go to the bar and get served straight away, not queue for toilets, and have lots of space whilst dancing. The sound system here is OK, it's not great. There was a space outside to get some fresh air or smoke. Full bag search upon entry, male cubicles cannot be locked but there are quite a few of them. Was 25 quid to get in and closed at 3am. I had a great time, but if it was packed it might have been a different story!

Big props to The Steel yard. Place was buzzing for Virus & Blackout finally found a club with good sound systems and nice security that actually have humility. I was unwell in the smokers and instead of being man handled out, I was given half an hour to chill out the front before being re-assessed and rightly allowed back in to finish the night(i was completely fine in the end). The queue to get in was massive but moved fast, the search was thorough but not intrusive and drinks were expensive but thats London. Would defo go again
