We chose the Queen's Arms because we wanted to have an intimate dinner with old friends in a relaxed environment and we thought the reputation for good food combined with the lively atmosphere would be suitable for three old friends catching up of Christmas. We booked in advance because we only meet up very rarely and wanted our dinner to go smoothly. We did not have to select our dishes in advance comma according to what was written on the website, but the Christmas menu was open to us as a group of that size.
Our experience on the evening was very disappointing. We arrived and it was clear that no table had been reserved for us. We were told we would be sat in one area of the pub, but then that changed and we were told we would be sat somewhere else. We were the only available table which was not big enough for three people to eat at. We could tell by looking at other people at another table of the same size where two people were eating and could tell that this would not accommodate three. It was also next to the door which made it cold and uncomfortable.not what we expected from the location of our 2023 Christmas get-together.
We were given the regular menu but not the Christmas menu. We were told this was only available to people who booked in advance. This was a further disappointment from the Queen's Arms.
The final straw was the attitude of the staff who were unwilling to meet our modest expectations in any way. They presented the issues about the table and the menu as a fait accompli and had no appreciation for the significance of our Christmas get together.
We decided to go to a local Italian restaurant and had a much more enjoyable experience. Buon Natale,...
Read moreZERO STARS FOR THE SO CALLED MANAGER Friday, 03/12/22 at 11:40AM This tall chubby man (not bodyshaming just describing as i didn’t catch his name) started bringing tables out to the Upper Tachbrook Street side. After putting the first table down he put one finger on one nostril and blew the contents of his nose onto the pavement then wiped his nose with his hand and went inside. Well that’s disgusting i thought… He came out straight away with another table, obviously did not wash his hads after this unbelievable act. Then he quickly brought out another table. By this time i got closer. He went inside again, bringing a brush and a pan outside and started sweeping. I stepped near him and asked if he is the owner, he said he is the manager… Wow! I told him i saw what he did and didn’t wash his hands, touching the tables and everything. Ha said he wasn’t touching anything (with the brush and the pan in his hands). I said i saw him bringing two tables out where customers will sit and they probably will touch them too and now the brush and pan, is that nothing? Instead of admitting it and apologising he answered “don’t you have anything better to do?” I just could not believe it. I said to him that he should use a napkin to blow his nose, not the street where other people are walking and he should wash his hands after, especially if he’s touching his runny nose! We’re still in a pandemic and people are dying! What was he thinking? How is this careless man the manager? He really needs to have some common sence and some health and safety training because this behaviour is unacceptable! I’m definitely not going to recommend this place to our...
Read moreA first catch- up with a very diverse group friends from Scotland and London: we haven't seen each other for years because of lockdowns and life! Chose the Queens Arms at random to proximity of the Scottish contingent's hotel. A classic pub with a gentle contemporary twist. Lovely welcome to the (then) quiet pub... great menu, drinks list... friendly service from all the busy staff team. Snug furniture layout with plenty of seating options. Try the fish, try the burger... Try the Roulade with Apple purée! Also enjoyed a reasonably priced red... And a lovely single malt whiskey... or two. Amazingly cooperative and cheerful staff, managed to rearrange seatings to allow us to keep our gathering going an hour or two longer ( we had a lot of gossiping and catching up to do!) THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MANAGING THAT ON THIS OCCASION! We'd recommend this place for a party (a successful work party was happening beside us), a wee gathering of four or five... a first date... Or even a quick lone pint out of the cold! It got busy...but deserves to be even slightly busier! Friendly, polite crowd. A place where lots of chatter happened, alongside a comfortable volume of music... subtle Christmas vibes. It's the local I wish I had as my local....
