Stray Dog Cafe — Restaurant in Akron

You must stop at Stray Dog Cafe whether you're visiting the library, (the Cafe is in the library near the front entrance on Main Street) or downtown for lunch or just coffee. There are gourmet hotdog choices, vegetarian and vegan choices, as well as salads and sandwiches, rice bowls, and a variety of pickles by Akron Pickle. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Plenty of seating and a clean restaurant. The prices are very reasonable. They also have their own line of mustards, including honey mustard made with Akron Honey Co. honey. Charley Murphy, the co-owner and creator of the menu, is a wonderful guy and definitely "makes Akron more Akrony"!! Also look for them at events with their Stray Dog Carts! I needed a place to hang for an hour or so. I was looking for a pastry to go with coffee, but it was not something they had and a cookie was not what I had in mind. The server offered a bagel and cream cheese as a suggestion. I guess they usually use them for breakfast sandwiches. It really hit the spot and the medium roast coffee was excellent for a coffee wimp like me. Everything was served quickly and my odd questions about how long they had been around, were answered enthusiastically with additional information shared without asking. I visited Stray Dog on a Wednesday afternoon and ordered a traditional hotdog with Mac and cheese on top. About the food. I haven't tasted a better hot dog in Akron and the Mac and cheese made took me back to my days in South Carolina where Mac and cheese is a vegetable. The outdoor and indoor seating make Stray Dog a comfortable place for an informal business meeting or to soak up some vitamin D on a lunch break (when the sun does shine in NE Ohio 😉).
