It would be 1/5 but the beer was actually good but man did they fall short for something that was supposed to be a “popular” spot.
Also would like to mention the local that drove us there made it clear it wasn’t good pizza and it was made to be bougie. Do with this info what you will. I won’t ever come back any time I visit Alaska. Which will be often.
From my experience, the fact this spot has such high ratings is amazing. At first my wife and I thought it was going to be amazing pizza because the wait time at 4pm for dinner was 1 hour and 45 minutes.
When we finally got seated, we got seated at a table connected to another party after passing an open booth “mind you for the duration of time we ate that open booth sat TWO people after we were seated” so we waited 1:45 to be sat with people and skipped over for a booth seat alone.
When our waiter took our order we placed one for an appetizer and 2 different pizzas. We had ordered the Salmon dip appetizer and was asked to add capers for $1.00 now that’s not a lot but we said no as we don’t like capers. Later at the bill we saw she charged for them and also added it to our order even though we said no. Not a huge charge but the principle alone.
My wife had ordered a small “margherita” pizza. Now granted the menu said garlic oil in the description but we didn’t expect a Margherita to come with NO red sauce. Also you have to pay extra for actual fresh mozzarella for a MARGHERITA. She ordered a small which should have been an additional $1.00 charge per the menu, we were charged $3.00. This pizza was a 1/10 for a margherita pizza it’s a disgrace to call it one; my wife and I agree it was very bland.
I had ordered the call of the wild pizza Medium size and was served the same small size as my wife’s. When I was asked if I wanted a medium also and I refused as I’m not paying for 2 pizzas. “I’m not sure if I would have been double charged but the server didn’t specify, and I wasn’t going to wait another hour”
The fact it was a 2hour wait for pizza makes me realize just because you wait does not mean you will get good food or good service, it was sub par service and basic pizza that was messed up at the simplest level. The good reviews are probably driven from people that fill up on the beer and wine while waiting and could care less at the service or pizza because the “allure” of a crowd makes them believe the wait and food was...
Read moreOk we're from out of town and this place was recommended by lots of people. We went on the weekend and it was an hour and a half to both be seated or get takeout and that didn't work for us. This was at 5pm on a Saturday so we thought we would be early enough but nope.
Thankfully we were able to go back later in the week. It seems the best times to visit are weekday afternoons. (They do walk in interviews M-Th from 1-4 so that seems like the best time to come)
We came at 3 on a Wednesday and waited around 10 minutes. We got a table out in their tent which is set up to have extra tables/square footage. They're clearly doing everything they can to serve as many people as possible.
Our server was excellent! He had great communication and made sure we got exactly what we wanted! Let us know what was going on with our order. Kept drinks full. Etc. He also told us that (even at that less busy time) pizzas were taking about 25 minutes to come out so better to order as soon as we are ready.
They have digital menus like quite a few places these days (see QR code image for menu and weekly specials). Our pizzas took about a half hour. And they were totally worth it. I don't think I would ever wait an hour and a half for any restaurant, but at the same time, while traveling in AK, it wasn't always an option. Thankfully in Anchorage there are options, however if you're able to get here, it's worth it. The pizza crust is excellent. I got the Mac and cheese pizza with blackened chicken instead of reindeer sausage and I ate 3/4 of the small size. I didn't think I would eat that much but it was delicious.
If you can get there when they aren't super busy, it's 100% worth it!
I personally think they should start a delivery only location to cater to that side of the business since that isn't currently available. I would have probably ordered it another time or two that way if it was available! I think traveler's, airport/airline employees, company employees would definitely be ordering...
Read moreFor those who appreciate the harmonious combination of beer and pizza, Moose's Tooth in Anchorage, Alaska, is the must visit stop in Anchorage. Though you can't tour Broken Tooth Brewing, the experience at Moose's Tooth, a critically acclaimed pizza restaurant and bar, counts as their brewery taproom in our book.
Our favorite beers of the visit were the Wild Country Raspberry, and the Artic Apple Ale. Wild Country Raspberry is a delightful tart ale with light notes of raspberry. Its subtle fruitiness and refreshing tartness strike a balance, creating an easy-drinking and satisfying beer. The Arctic Apple Ale was a recommendation from the beertender as a local favorite. Despite its claim of not being a cider, it drinks like one with its crisp and sweet apple flavor. This beer is a refreshing delight that combines the best of ale and cider characteristics.
Moose's Tooth is renowned for its incredible pizzas, and our visit confirmed its reputation. The Spicy Thai Chicken pizza comes loaded with marinated chicken, Thai peanut sauce, cilantro, and mozzarella, delivering a burst of bold flavors. Equally delicious is the Garlic Lovers pizza, which includes chicken, bacon, broccoli, and a generous amount of garlic, mozzarella, provolone, and Parmesan, all covered in a rich cream sauce. Both pizzas were highly recommended to us beforehand, and both lived up to the hype.
Founded in 1996, Moose's Tooth has established itself as a beloved local hotspot known for its vibrant atmosphere and busy vibe. The place is bustling nonstop from open until close, so if you're in a rush, ordering for pickup is a wise option. The ambiance is lively and welcoming, making it a great spot for families, friends, and solo diners alike. Moose's Tooth is part of a trio of sister entities that include the Bear Tooth Theatrepub and the Bear Tooth Grill. Each location offers a unique experience while maintaining the high standards of food and drink that have made these establishments...
