The review just below mine indicates things here aren't like they used to be at Ruby's, and I agree with that. The breakfast burritos used to have those crunchy potatoes in them and lots of fresh cilantro and flavors, but lately seem a little soggy and urbane. My favorite Veggie Cheese Steak just seems a little more insipid than of yore. IDK. The sauces still seem OK and they will still give you some for free, though they seem to be perpetually "out" of Chocolate Jesus sauce , which I think is their best.
But all that aside, this is a very welcoming place and is one of the few places with a lot of vegetarian options and generally pretty good food. It is very unpretentious and has a lot of outdoor seating (in fact most of the seating is outdoor). They generally have a wonderful lemonade they make and they have, IMO, some of the best plain coffee in town. And if prices are any concern, this place is uber-reasonable. Not sure what is going on with those breakfast burritos lately, but perhaps it is...
Read moreOverrated burgers. Tasted like frozen meat I could get at Safeway. $5 fries were undercooked. Curly fries were great - perfectly cooked. Runny ketchup that was some off brand. Sat out all day. Both containers were out so we were told to use little packets. Expected tip (we tipped at time of order) but no service. It’s a self service kind of place. Bus your own tables. Not sure what tip is for as you even have to put your own sauce on your burger. Shake was runny and my Carmel shake was indistinguishable from a vanilla shake - looked like they just squirted a teaspoon in there worth of Carmel to coat 20% of the side of the mason jar.
Super disappointed given the great reviews.
Also super weird rules like required 10% service fee for $75+ orders. They punish big orders with an additional fee? Why would you do this? Wouldn’t a small business want a 3-4 person...
Read morePassing thru Ashland this place caught my eye. Parking on the street in front was full so we pulled around behind the building. One of the employees was out back smoking, he gave us the thumbs up, said we were good to park there. Cool, so my buddy and I run into to check the menu and grab something to go, only to be greeted by this tightly wound manager that demands we move our car immetialty... and with some seriously uncalled for hostility. Is this a joke? I told her about how her employee literally had just said we were good to park there. She had no interest in what he had said, and won’t let it go. After this we definitely had no desire to order anything. Told her she should manage her employees alittle better, and she just lost are bussiness. She relpies “don’t worry that’s totally fine, please leave” haha wow. Needless to say won’t be stopping...
