This place isn’t for everyone — just the ones who know how to do date night right. Tapas, vibes, and a long bar with a story. Keep scrolling eleswhere if you’re not ready for fantismenal — that’s the word my wife created on the spot, a mix between fantastic and phenomenal, and honestly, it fits perfectly.
The ambiance is an Asian blend with the energy of a sophisticated nightlife lounge. It feels exclusive and incognito, the kind of place where the lighting is dim, the bar stretches long, and the mood invites you to lose track of time. Although we made reservations for a quiet table, we chose to sit in the center of the dining room, surrounded by everything from lively group outings to intimate couples enjoying the night. It felt like the right choice.
I started with the Spiced Dragon — the house specialty cocktail — while my date went for the Celery Sour, choosing to walk on the wild side. While both were well-crafted, the Spiced Dragon was the clear winner. I could have ordered another on the spot. It’s that kind of drink — smooth, balanced, and uplifting without overpowering.
Our meal began with the Crispy Thai Larb Meatballs — juicy, flavorful chicken bites brought to life with a sweet and spicy Thai chili sauce. They were the perfect appetizer, light but satisfying. Next came the Blackjack Wings, and let me tell you, they deserve their own spotlight. Crispy, bold, and served with a sauce that could bottle up and sell, these wings are now a non-negotiable part of every return visit.
As we sipped our cocktails and settled into the music and scenery, the entrees arrived. My wife went with a hibachi duo — steak and chicken — and she was more than pleased. She’s picky about seasoning and salt, but the flavor spoke for itself. The plate was wiped clean with nothing but her yum-yum sauce left behind. I opted for the signature Lobster in a Pot. The rich, savory combination of lobster, bacon, and glass noodles hit me in a way I wasn’t expecting. It set the bar for every noodle dish I’ll eat from now on. A comfort-food experience made elegant.
Just when I thought the night couldn’t get any better, Cam, our server, recommended dessert. I usually pass unless it’s a special occasion, but something about his confidence in the choice made me lean in. I ordered the Peach Mousse — and it felt like I was handed a slice of fortune with every bite. A delicate outer shell gave way to layers of peach-flavored filling, light and luscious, with real slices of peach on the side that added both texture and presentation. It was so tempting that my date, who had no plans for dessert, couldn’t resist jumping in with me. I need to eat mousse more often — this one made me a believer.
What elevated the entire experience was the service. Cam, our server, was top-notch — he explained each drink and dish with care and confidence, and every recommendation hit. Even the general manager, James, came by to check in with us, which made the whole evening feel intentional and valued. That’s rare these days.
Will I be back? Without a doubt. Next time, you might find me at the bar, solo or with another date night in mind, sipping another Spiced Dragon and letting the music and atmosphere do what they do best. Blackjack Bar Tapas isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a vibe, an experience, and absolutely my...
Read moreWe came here on a Monday evening for my partner’s birthday and we may have found our new favorite restaurant.
First off, the decor and atmosphere was incredible immediately. It’s easy to see when a place is just trying to be “kitschy” and this is NOT one of those places. Everywhere has a beautiful view with so many different textures and elements, the seating is some of the most comfortable I’ve ever experienced in a restaurant while still remaining practical, and the music had a little bit of everything that added another layer of charm. Even the area outside the bathrooms is beautifully decorated and the bathrooms were great too, with great lighting!
The service was outstanding. Sasha took care of us while we were there and she gave us a very personable, passionate, and knowledgeable evening. She really knows every detail you could need to know about every ingredient in both the food and the drinks from where things are sourced, what’s made in-house, and flavor profiles. The timing of drinks and dishes was really kind of perfect and very consistent the entire evening. Empty water glasses seemingly, magically filled and a lot of attention to when cocktails were low and plates were clearing. The GM checked in on us a couple times and he told us even more about the restaurant and what they’re about and we fell more in love with the place!
One of each cocktail was ordered at our table, also including the n/a version of the mango sticky rice cocktail and every single drink couldn’t have been more unexpected and wildly different and delicious. Perfect pairings of ingredients, most of which are made in-house. Every cocktail was a full experience, not just a drink. The n/a mango sticky rice was delicious. It wasn’t just a glorified cup of juice nor was it just a cup of sugar, it was delicious and refreshing and an absolute treat.
We gradually made our way through most of the menu as a group and as each plate was brought to the table, we had a new favorite dish! We couldn’t decide on a favorite by the end of the night, everything was equally delicious. While the plates are small they’re still very well portioned, we split everything between 4 people and we actually all left perfectly full. The yuzu donuts are also absolutely delicious. The yuzu curd filling was a rich and tangy delight. Everything was brought out so beautifully but not many photos were taken because we were all too busy enjoying ourselves to even think about it.
Everything about our evening was an absolute treat, we didn’t want to leave! If you’re looking for an elevated yet cozy and personable evening of incredible dishes and cocktails, do yourself a favor and spend some time here. There’s such a rich and deep level of intention in everything about this restaurant that was not lost on us and we hope more of you get to experience it.
Thank you so much for a lovely evening! We’ll see...
Read moreOur experience here was just OK.
They’re calling themselves a craft cocktail bar, and they do have a diverse drink menu with some unique things on it. But we both felt like $19 for a cocktail was too much, both based on being in Atlanta and the overall vibe and experience. (There were people in tennis shoes and T-shirts at the bar.)
I acknowledge they’ve only been open for about a month, but these are seasoned restaurant owners. And based on that, the service was awful. They seated us without menus. We ordered drinks and a couple tapas and it took probably 45 min for those to come out. They also only brought three of the four that we ordered. They were not complex things to make: beef jerky (tender but why was it deep fried?), grilled asparagus (good but not extraordinary), and crispy tuna (also good but nothing earth shattering).
We ordered a couple more things (seaweed salad (again good but nothing unusual); fried mushrooms (more batter than mushroom, would not order again); and chicken meatballs (the surprise star of the meal, which we almost didn’t order) and another round of drinks. We were completely finished with our drinks and our second batch food still had not come out. After the two different bartenders who were serving our area had been very attentive and checked on us almost too much for the first 45 minutes, they disappeared so we didn’t even have anyone to tell that our food had not arrived.
When someone finally came back, she checked on the food and told us the kitchen had gotten backed up. But then, miraculously, all of our food arrived within the next five minutes. Except the one missing plate from our first order, which never did appear. So, we never got to try the shrimp wontons, one of their signature plates.
And while all of this was going on with us, they served the woman next to us, who ordered a Mocktail, a drink with alcohol in it. Thankfully, she wasn’t an alcoholic, but she gets ill. She took a couple sips of it and immediately started having stomach pain. That’s a big mistake to make.
So all in all we were there for two hours and most of our time was spent not even eating. It was nice to spend time together, but I would be hesitant to go back for another $190...
