Thoroughly disappointed. This marketplace is in a luxury shopping mall where service should not be compromised. We visited the market at lunch time on Saturday, June 15th and it was not very busy at all. We visited multiple counters at which there was no one to serve us and the workers that were walking around just looked at us and kept walking. This went on for about 20 minutes. Finally, we went up to the sushi chef at the counter and he was the only person kind enough to pay attention to us and point us in the right direction. The workers and manager of the market had made eye contact with us multiple times and just let us stand around multiple counters and not once tried to come help us. We walked to them and asked if someone could come assist with our ordering and even then there was hesitation and pushback. After finally getting some help, we sat in front of the only service-friendly person and tried to have a nice meal but customers kept having to come ask him for help and stop him from doing his job. Finally the managers, chef, and other workers came to talk to him and he complained that he was the only one paying attention to customers, and he was! They almost ganged up on him and created a whole scene, and finally ended up telling him to go home and shut down the only station that had a person at it. And the only one who would pay attention to clients. It’s not okay to hire cheap labor vs. the right labor, especially at a location that is supposed to keep a reputation. It’s pretty telling when BOH has to get involved with service because FOH refuses to do their job. And then they all ganged up on the only person doing things correctly! This is completely unacceptable. It’s no wonder there was almost...
Read moreCitizens Market at Phipps Plaza is a complete disappointment from start to finish. Despite its prime location and flashy promises, the reality falls far short of expectations. The service is abysmal, with disinterested staff who seem more focused on their phones than on providing even basic customer service. This is not the "foodie playground" it claims to be; rather, it's a poorly executed collection of mediocre options that do nothing to reflect Atlanta's vibrant culinary scene.
The food offerings are as lackluster as the service. There is a shocking lack of local flavor, which is ironic given Atlanta's rich food culture. Instead of showcasing the best of what the city has to offer, Citizens Market offers a bizarre mix of generic, overpriced stalls that no one asked for. The quality of the food is subpar at best, and the prices are outrageously high for what you get. It's almost as if they believe slapping a celebrity chef's name on a menu justifies charging an arm and a leg for mediocre fare. Spoiler: it doesn't.
This place is trying too hard to be something it's not, and in the process, it's failing miserably. The lack of local options is a glaring mistake, and the overall experience is one of regret. The whole concept feels forced, and the result is a food hall that lacks soul, authenticity, and value. Save your money and your taste buds – this is one Atlanta experience you'll definitely...
Read moreWas excited to try some of the options here but was sadly very disappointed. Tried the 'sticky ribs' at Chef Morimoto's restaurant first. Chef M himself would be disappointed. I was expecting the same type of ribs that are so delicious at his restaurant in Disney Springs. Instead of actual ribs, we were served riblets (with gross gristle throughout) and got 3 riblets plus half a morsel (we were supposed to get 4 ribs) for a ripoff price of $16. Got the Karaage chicken too for $14 and got 5 tiny bites of chicken. Also a ripoff. We tried to get a burger from Umami and after standing in a line for 20 min of only about 8 people or so, we were told they were going to stop taking orders because they were understaffed and overwhelmed. Looking at the staff, they looked to have plenty of people behind the counter, so I don't think understaffing was the issue. More like, lack of training to handle any sort of volume of customers. We skipped this place and went hungry. Didn't even bother with the rest of the market as we had already had enough with this experience. We left. Won't be back any time soon and won't be recommending this spot to others, regardless of how pretty and trendy the atmosphere is. (Oh and when my husband asked someone that worked there if we were to bus our own table or if someone comes around to clear it, he was told "whatever" with an eye roll and a...
