I have been been searching for a great chinese food restaurant for months, from cali to new york i think this is one of the best restaurants in my opinion. I had a great chinese food in NY but this restaurant made me feel like i was at a family members house. Greeted as me and my lady walked in and seated quickly, there was a few people there. started off with nice glass of ice water, steamed shrimp dumplings that were amazing , flavorful soft chewy skin with a generous portion of ground shrimp with soy sauce. i don’t know if they had hot chili oil but if they did i missed it but that would have been wonderful . after that we ordered spicy basil beef and seafood hot and sour soup with a side of the best kimchi i’ve ever had . the hot and sour soup with best of three worlds, amazing shrimp and scallops cooked to perfection soaking up all the flavors of the soup was just best , hands down the most flavorful hot and sour soup i’ve had and i’ve been alot of places .. the kimchi was fermented to the point of perfection also not too soggy still had a nice crunch and nice big pieces made just right . better than any kimchi you will find , that’s a recipe straight from the family that i wish i had .. finally the spicy basil beef , the beef was seasoned just right , marinated in goodness and just melts in your mouth with a good portion of rice to follow just perfect combination , the spice was not too much , however, i love spicy food i would probably perfer a little spicier but it was perfect as is . with all these dishes i cant recommend just one just you should try all of them you tastebuds will love you for it . the service was great multiple servers came including one of whom i believe was the manager and gave water and ensured everything was good for us which is a good sign in any restaurant. very clean bathrooms clean floors and dining areas well taken care of. nice romantic atmosphere great for a date night . we got there at 8:30pm , half hour before closing and it was not a problem we were not rushed or pressured to leave as we were the last ones to leave. thank you again for such an...
Read moreHsu's Chinese restaurant in downtown Atlanta is simply delightful. I've eaten here on a few occasions when travel has taken me to A-town. Situated within an easy walk of the Marriott Marquis, Westin, Hyatt, and Hilton, it is a perfect place to go for a great meal for travelers or locals alike. The host/hostess has always seated me and my company promptly. The tables await guests with chopsticks and utensils ready to go. The menus are a bit faded and can be hard to read, but that is a testament to the many people who visit this great establishment.
I always start out with the Wonton soup - the dumplings are supple, hearty, and always flavorful. The stock is superb and has a deeper complexity of fresh herbs and savory goodness that no carry-out Chinese restaurant can remotely replicate. As for entrees, there are many great options, though the curry is one of my favorites. It's popping with flavor and a nice dab of heat. That said, my friends and colleagues have shared only praise for their dishes, too. I should note, Hsu's is one of the few Chinese restaurants I've been at that does not overly salt the food. This is a testament to an expert chef and kitchen staff who take the time to bring big flavor without relying on salt.
The atmosphere is quiet, unpretentious, and comfortable. The low lighting makes for an intimate and pleasant setting with abundant wood accents to create an ambiance that can only be described as warm.
Hsu's is one of my favorite places to eat in Atlanta. I encourage you to visit this excellent restaurant and enjoy the atmosphere and cuisine for yourself. I am sure...
Read moreThe Peking Duck is excellent. It serves two generously. They first slice the crispy skin off and combine it with some type of mild crunchy onion and a sweet sauce in an ultrathin crepe. Two each - delicious. Next is the duck soup, which is a small serving, but just right given the richness. It has mushrooms and shredded bamboo shoots. Finally, the breast meat is served with a sweet and spicy sauce with steamed broccoli and a side of rice. It is sliced and very tender.
I generally go to the Buford Highway outfits for Peking Duck, but work downtown, and my wife met me for dinner. We will definitely go back. This is one of the few downtown restaurants I would consider worthwhile versus the prime restaurant areas of Atlanta.
They had a wide selection of appetizers that sounded good, but we knew our duck would be a ton of food so we did not order any. They have a full bar. We only had a beer. They had Sweetwater 420 and Tropicalia, which was a pleasant surprise.
As others have said, the interior fits with its founding - 1989 - but we thought it was charming. There are a million other places with nice but generic, sleek interiors.
We went early on a Friday night - six or so - and did not have to wait. They got slammed after we started eating, but the servers were still very attentive.
In the entrance they have photos of various celebrities/athletes over the years that we glanced at on the way out.
If you are downtown looking for something interesting, this is the...
