Relatively poor price performance. Food was pretty good, but portions are small.
I went with 7 people on a Monday night. We got the C course (which came with corn cheese and steamed egg and rice), a kitchen cooked order of the soy chicken, spring rolls, seafood pancake (haemul pajeon), and a side of spicy cold noodle (bibim naengmyun) Pros: ++Food was generally good. Meat was good quality. The pancake has a lightly crispy surface, non-floppy texture and the sauce with it was nice. The soy chicken was not exactly korean, but it's also chicken at a kbbq place so it's always a bit of a gamble. It came almost stirfried with lots of vegetables which was nice. +The banchan was pretty tasty, with an acceptable variety: kimchi, turnip sheets, steamed broccoli, and a few more. +The servers came as often as they could and were very competent, and also very nice.
Cons: -----Portions are small for the price. Between the 7 of us, with an extra entree and several appetizers we had no trouble eating everything and we still had room for dessert elsewhere. Combo C ($228) is noted as being for 5-6 and it would make for a sensible meal for 5 and demure meal for 6. For comparison, with the same number of people at 9292 getting the D combo, which is $200 and is noted as being for 5, 5 people would have to be hungry athletes to finish it all, and 6 normal people would still have trouble finishing it. You are very much paying for midtown rents here. --Our table had one grill. The table could have seated 8 which would have definitely not been enough grill per person. The table next to ours had 10 or so people and two grills, which is an acceptable ratio. -The place was understaffed. It was literally just the two people. It was a Monday though and two large groups randomly showed up, so this was just bad luck on their part. The servers we did have handled it with aplomb.
If you want KBBQ and don't want to travel to Doraville, then you can certainly suck it up and eat here. I won't be doing it in the future unless I can expense it, in which case it's not a bad option for a...
Read moreReview update: 5-star KBBQ Went again today for lunch... Just to give it a second chance. They've really step it up since they opened. For a well deserved 5 star. Sides 5/5 - love them, asked for more, and got more. Meat vs price & service 5/5 - same good quality meat, but this time our server knew exactly how to cook the meats. Which made them taste so much better. Servers were super attentive, everything we've asked for we got. Seafood pancake 5/5 - this time the pancake is crispy and delicious! They also brought out extra sauce when asked.
They've also upgraded their soup to be much more flavorful, which is great.
Overall experience was great, nothing to complain about. They've definitely redeemed themselves in my mind. Would be happy to return.
Previous review KBBQ: · Meat vs price 2/5 - good quality meat, but way too pricy and lacking in flavor. · Sides 2/4 - I was not a fan of any but everyone else was ok with it. We only ate 2 out of 4 sides. Please, at least serve some kimchi as one of the sides. · Service 1/5 - the first server had no idea what she was doing. She didn't even know what kind of meat she was serving. She didn't know how long to cook it or how to cook it. Another server came by and took over - he was more knowledgeable but still (almost) burnt our food. · Seafood pancake 1/5 - I was expecting the usual crispy seafood pancake. It came out very thick and gooey, was compared as egg foo young by my colleagues. They served four people with a tiny thing of soy sauce, asked for more but they didn't bring any. · Overall friendliness 5/5 - very nice conversational people. Management/boss checked on us often to make sure we have what we need. · Location 5/5 - midtown. Close to everything, has parking.
I've been to quite a few Kbbq and this is not on my to go list. If you crave it, it's close. But I wouldn't return. Also, they have flat chopsticks and those are always incredibly difficult to use (and I've used chopsticks all my life and I was struggling!). I felt bad bc a fellow colleague paid for this expensive meal...I would choose a different...
Read moreMy friend and I had been talking about trying Korean bbq for the first time. We were going to have Pho , but saw this place and thought we’d finally try it . We walked in and there is a sign with the to-go menu on it and directions to order online. We stood at the front for a while and since no one came , we assumed that meant that because of COVID they were only offering take out. However , we then saw a small group sitting and eating . We waited about 5 minutes and still no one walked up to the host stand. We then assumed we should just have a seat. After we sat down diagonally from the other group , we waited again another almost 10 minutes. I knew someone would be coming out to check on the group that was sitting already, so I just planned to get someone’s attention when they did. What happened next was disgusting. Before this, race had not been a factor . My friend and I (two black women in our 20s) saw what looked like the manager come out , check on the white family that was eating , and look right at us and walk away. I waved my hand and said “can you help us please” and he just looked . A language barrier is obviously not the case , considering he was just speaking and checking on the only other group in the restaurant that were white , English speaking people. He watched us get up and walk out and said nothing. This was so shocking I can’t even explain the feeling . This establishment clearly does not welcome black Americans and refuses to serve them if they “don’t feel like it” I guess . So, if you’re black and want Korean bbq try the new place in Atlantic Station instead. It has always been a “thing” that many (not all) people of Asian descent don’t deal with black people and don’t like us . Today confirmed...
