I’m absolutely astonished at how this place has great reviews. Let me give you a realistic one. To start off I am a professional food critic, personal chef, and digital food influencer. We came at 2pm. servers were amazing. Everything else was MID. Atmosphere in the photos looks nothing like it does in person. Host stand is more aesthetic than anything else in there. Seating area itsself was very dark, depressing and TINY, not even bar seating. So ask for outdoor. Menu was extremely limited and within every menu item description is something absolutely throwing the dish off, making it difficult and unappealing.
Lobster roll-(3/10) flavors made absolutely zero sense. Extremely hard, thick, dog treat textured bacon thrown on top of it. When did bacon go with lobster? not even incorporated, such as bacon fat poached lobster, just literally thrown on top to be picked off. Over kill. The roll they use has honey. so you’ve got honey, cold boring lobster that tasted like it was rolled around in sour cream and sugar, and inedible leather bacon. Menu description said it had green apple in it, but was nowhere to be found. Rename the apple part as “Waldo” and let people play ispy. Probably because you don’t contrast lobster with another sweet profile, let alone 2 (honey and apple) Not a lick of butter on the roll either. No zing, zap, or contrasting flavors. Just cold and sweet and underwhelming. Fries were up to par though.
Mahi tacos- (5.5/10) were decent for what it was, but keep in mind it’s under the shareable section however only comes with 1... had way too much sauce and was plated poorly, no authentic toppings, just literally sauce covered cabbage, jarred jalapeños, and more sauce. No onions or cilantro or even pico de gallo. I can understand if it was LA style, but it wasn’t anything I’ve seen. It’s like they tried to be different but didn’t have a real vision in mind. couldn’t even see the star of the show which is the fish. And I don’t mean some toppings on it; I mean you cannot see it. I thought they forgot the fish at first til I grabbed and bit into it. but all around was an edible dish. not a lot to mess up there.
Trout dip-(2/10)was a terrible excuse for a dip. You’d think you’d receive a hot, gooey dip with a bread/baguette. Nope. It was some tortilla chips, only about 6 of them, with about 2 shattered to dust, so really 4.. Not even joking. And the dip was literally unsoftened cream cheese mixed with blended trout, and I say blended because it had absolutely zero texture or pieces of trout. Extremely thick, you’d have an easier time dipping a tortilla chip into freshly laid cement. and the serving of this dip was literally in the smallest dip container I’ve ever seen. Almost comparable to a shot glass. Chips might’ve been bigger than it. For the “garnish” of this “dip” they placed some cut up banana peppers on top it looked like.
I’m honestly tired of upscale resturants overthinking these dishes to the point it’s just inedible and off putting. It’s almost like a 12 year old that watched a few master chef episodes created this menu. Each dish was either overkill or underwhelming. all around it was a 5.5/10 experience. Our host, server, and servers assistant were amazing though. Try it for yourself though, maybe I’m not the...
Read moreWe visited this spot on a whim this week while we were in the area. The menu is diverse and the restaurant has great reviews. Overall, though, we were not impressed. We did not have a reservation, but were seated promptly. The hostess was polite, but not exactly friendly. The ambiance was very nice. Good music, maybe a little too dark in there for an early evening meal, if anything. It was cool out so we opted to sit inside, but the outdoor seating looked pretty cool. The server was also the bartender and she, too, was very polite, but not exactly friendly or inviting. She did not pass on her name the whole time we were there. She was somewhat ambivalent about the menu and did not really give great answers to our questions. She did make killer drinks. We had the grilled octopus as an appetizer and this was the best dish of the night. It was flavorful and the sauce was bright and tasty. I had the tagliatelle as an entree. This is a vegan dish. I did not know that until the server said so because it is not noted anywhere on the menu, but that did not bother me. I enjoy pasta and veggies so no big deal. My husband ordered the burger which we saw pop up a lot on the counter so it must be popular. The pasta was a huge disappointment. It was presented in a lovely way, but had absolutely no flavor. None. It was supposed to be tossed in a vegan pesto. I could not taste anything at all. I actually asked for salt and pepper, which is rare for me. The peas were hard like they were not fresh. The pasta was stuck together. It was just not a great meal at all. The burger was okay. Again, the seasoning was lacking, but it was cooked to perfection and the presentation was great. The fries were not bad. It was a Wednesday evening so maybe the top chef and line cooks were not present, but this was a miss. We probably will...
Read moreI went here with my boyfriend as we were given a gift card to try a new place for Christmas. We had a reservation, but it was a Wednesday night and very slow with many open tables regardless. Our waiter seemed very preoccupied. It looked like he may have been manning the bar as well, but there were only a couple of people at the bar, so it didn’t seem like a reason to neglect his tables. We started with the pimento cheese board which was good and probably the only thing we ordered that I would even consider getting again. We ordered the smoked pork chop and the wood grilled picanha (steak) for main courses. The pork chop was very over cooked and dry and whatever cut of steak that was used had a horrendous amount of gristle. My jaw was literally hurting after chewing the one piece of his I tried. He ordered it medium rare as well so should’ve been pretty easy to chew. Also, with such a small menu, I would certainly expect the dishes to be amazing since that’s kinda the idea for having a smaller menu. This place isn’t cheap either, so we were simply expecting better. It was just very disappointing overall. I was also planning on getting a dessert to bring a different taste to my mouth from the main course, but wasn’t even asked about that. Another server ended up bringing us the check because our guy had neglected us for whatever reason. 10/10 wouldn’t recommend. It’s a shame really because it was a nice restaurant with a good ambience.
Also side note, the bathrooms aren’t marked at all. So after asking where they were, we went to them and still couldn’t tell which door to go in. There were a few doors and still no markings. I guess they were all gender neutral, which is fine, but it was just weird and honestly a little creepy since it was so dark...
