Probably one of the worst service experiences I've witnessed in a while (in terms of the communication gap between front and back of house). Came here with some friends (party of 5, including myself) for vacation a few weeks back and just only remembered now to write a review after recapping to others about the vacation.
I would like to preface that the visit originally started out really great. We were greeted promptly & the waiter was friendly.
However, when it got to receiving our food, it was a nightmare.
First, an appetizer was missed because the waiter didn't ring in one of my friend's orders as a combo and only as a ramen. The waiter asked if we still wanted it, we said no it was fine and continued.
Then, we started receiving our main orders of ramen. Two out of five ramens were incorrect and another just had a partial mistake. The partial mistake was including mushrooms when no mushrooms was requested, fortunately not an allergy, but annoying none the less. The other two we politely sent back and waited.
When most of the party was halfway through their ramen, we finally received the two new ramens. One of them still completely incorrect and the other a partial mistake. The partial mistake was asking for chashu/pork but receiving chicken instead, was fine, my friend ate it anyway. We returned the other one.
Again, we waited and when most of the party was essentially done with their ramen we finally received the last one and it was all good.
The cherry on top was having to ask for more chopsticks since the container on the table holding utensils only had one pair and also asking for the drink order we still didn't receive by the second round of ramen exchanges.
I would now like to give more context now that all of this could have easily been avoided if our waiter had just written down our orders from the beginning rather than do the memorization route. I empathize with the service industry as I have worked in a fast paced restaurant myself and that's why I love reviewing places and giving credit where it's due when I have a great experience. On the same token, I also feel it's important to call out poor service so that places can learn to do better for the future!
Aside from the service, the food was good. Nothing spectacular to write home about. The chashu in the ramen wasn't that tender and had to chew a bit. The bao was pretty...
Read moreIf I could choose no stars I would! The manager/host on May 28 was a rude person. My family & business partner came in from Florida and we decided to go here because the Sugar Factory was booked. He had no smile, no enthusiasm in his face at the door. His energy was negative. He set our tables with menus but we requested for a booth. The chairs were too hard for my back being that I have back issues so that’s the only reason why I requested a booth. He storms off and didn’t even move our menus to the new table! Keep in mind the place was empty, everyone was passing by this place so we were really trying to inquire about shooting scenes here. All the places that surrounded this restaurant was full! No one came to ask us what we wanted to drink, eat, nothing! We had two hungry kids with us as well as adults. The atmosphere was stale so I asked for a manager and the cook said that the host was the manager and so I asked for his manager and he said he wasn’t there. We got up and walked out. Upon me leaving I told the manager/ host that his customer service was horrible! He never acknowledged our presence. What he did not know is that we were with a film executive that was looking for locations to shoot my new video series! We were really annoyed with this lame. Because of him they missed out on big$ and great marketing for this slow establishment. We ended up going to BULLA a great Spanish restaurant a few doors down and the food was excellent, the customer service was amazing and needless to say they will be getting the 50k show promo for the series. This place lost some good $$$ but I’m sure the food was just as bad as...
Read moreI recently visited Silverlake Ramen in Midtown, and here’s a balanced, four-star Google-style review:
Silverlake Ramen offers a solid, casual spot for a quick bowl in Midtown. The housemade noodles are satisfyingly chewy, and the broth carries a rich, savory depth that’s especially comforting on a chilly day.
I went for the “Shoyu on Fire,” which is a smart pick if you want a little extra kick—it comes with a spicy chicken broth and a hint of lime that gives it character and livens things up. The crispy rice with spicy tuna and the pork buns are standout appetizers too—the crispy rice has a nice kick from jalapeño, balanced with cool avocado, and the pork belly in the buns is tender with a tasty hoisin mayo.
The space itself feels a bit corporate—comfortable and efficient, but not particularly warm or unique. The full bar is a nice bonus if you're in the mood for something more than soup, though.
Service was friendly enough, and overall I was satisfied with my meal. A few minor things held me back from giving five stars, like the generic interior vibe and a few milder broth options—but if you're after a reliable ramen fix in Midtown, this is a solid choice.
4 stars—tasty noodles, bold spicy option, killer apps, but could use a bit more ambiance and...
