I have to say in the past I have not been very impressed with Suzy Siu’s Baos. This time, however, was really good.
So, the time before this, I was actually at the location ordering food. I placed my order, then proceeded to wait forever while I watched patron after patron who ordered after me get my food. I complained, and they told me they were still preparing it. This made no sense since people after me had received the same food before me. After finally receiving my food, I really wanted to take it back and ask for a refund. The pork was just fat, and the other baos barely had anything inside of them.
Now, this time was good. We ordered it for delivery one night for dinner. We got wings, tater tots, kimchi collard greens, street corn, 2 pork belly baos, 2 fried chicken baos, 1 pork carnitas bao, and 1 Korean bbq beef bao.
The pork belly and chicken baos were good. The Korean one was okay. The carnita one was not that impressive, and the tortilla chip in it was not necessary. It was nice and soggy by the time it got to us.
The tater tots and corn were surprisingly good. I could eat the corn every day.
The kimchi collard greens were just okay. The serving was not very big, and it was kind of watery. I would have liked more collard greens.
The wings were okay, but the sauce was super sweet. Other than that, there was not a lot of flavor.
I will definitely order more baos, tots, and corn in the future. Every place deserves a second chance, and I was happy...
Read moreI definitely recommend Suzy Siu's Baos!
I came here a couple weeks ago. I wanted to try a bunch of different things in Krog. I love Chinese food and I love the idea of using the steamed Bao with something other than the Peking duck.
I ordered one pork belly Bao which had pickled red onions, pecan sugar, and cilantro with the pork belly in a steamed Bao. It tasted amazing! The pecan sugar worked well with the pickled red onions to complement the savory, deliciously fatty taste of the pork belly. Also the Bao was perfect. I'm Chinese so I grew up eating a lot of steamed Bao (usually with Peking duck). Suzy Siu's Bao was the perfect, classic steamed bao.
A single bao was $4.50 but there are combos and deals so the more bao you order, the cheaper it is per Bao. And the price seemed about right for Krog Street Market.
The only reason why I'm putting 4 stars instead of 5 is the service. The cashier wasn't particularly friendly. Also, a couple who ordered after me (and ordered a lot more food) got their food about 4 minutes before I did. So I was waiting about 10 minutes for my one Bao while this couple was already eating next to me. Suzy's wasn't busy, they had 3 customers in 10 minutes, and the cashier didn't bother to say anything to me as I stood there, waiting. He just stood, staring, at the register
I'd definitely go back because the food tasted AWESOME but I hope that the service is...
Read moreThe good: Today my family and I visited Suzy Siu's Baos and we LOVED our bao buns. I ordered the 2 baos and a side - fried green tomato and pork belly buns & togarashi tater tots. - YUM!
Everything was fresh, flavorful, and looked like the pictures (I like when my food looks like what is advertised). I would definitely recommend place AND I will be returning on my next visit.
The not so great: I am really big on customer service and believe that if you are the first face I see that it should be welcoming. I did not receive that today. The cashier I believe her name was Jasmine (African american woman with short blondish hair - she had on a army green hat today) was rude and not very welcoming . The first thing that I noticed was that Jasmine had on earbuds and singing to whatever it was she was listening to while dealing with customers - not very welcoming When it was my turn to order, I greeted her with a smile - blank stare I asked her about the tater tots - blank stare (mind you she just handed another customer their order...which had tater tots) After I ordered she left the counter and almost bumped into me - no excuse me or apology When my order was ready she pushed my order toward me, I said thank you and another warm smile - blank stare and she walked away
So much for Southern hospitality
Outside of the poor customer service, I REALLY enjoyed...
