I stopped by Varuni Napoli Pizza tonight for a quick bite before closing. I knew I was cutting it close, walking in at 8:53 PM, so I asked an employee — in front of the chefs and the manager, Gino — whether they were still taking orders. He said yes without hesitation, so I proceeded to the counter. After waiting for a few minutes, Gino approached and told me, "We shut the kitchen down." I responded, "But you just told me to come over and order." He looked at me, said nothing, then gave me a dismissive shrug before walking away. His attitude was rude and apathetic, making the entire experience feel alienating. As two minorities trying to get a meal, this kind of treatment was disappointing. I’m particularly troubled by Gino’s behavior as a manager. It was not just unprofessional, but also disrespectful. The image of a bald, white male manager shrugging off his customers is hard to ignore, especially in a city like Atlanta, known for its diversity and open-mindedness. Restaurants and businesses in such a vibrant, inclusive city should reflect that respect and kindness, especially from their leaders. This experience was...
Read moreI ordered the Nonna Mia and oh my goodness was it amazing! I’ve never been to Italy, but I imagine this pizza is as close to what you’d get in Naples as anything. The amount of cheese, sauce, and toppings was perfect. The homemade meatball was so flavorful. The buffalo mozzarella was melty and silky smooth. The sauce…..man. That San Marzano ragu was was unlike anything I’ve ever had. The crust was something I could have happily eaten plain, and I’m not a huge crust guy. I ordered at the counter. Service was good and very quick. Prices are very reasonable for what you get. If you find yourself at the Krog Street Market, grab yourself a pizza. I’m not sure how it will be left over. But, even if it’s half as good as it is fresh, it will still be better than almost any pizza out there. And the only reason there are leftovers is because we got something to try from...
Read moreMy friends and I went to Krog St. Market and decided to try the pizza place Varuni Napoli. I got the Spacca Napoli pizza which is $16. It is supposed to be a small pizza. It looks like a medium size but it is thin, so technically it's small. You cannot order the pizza by the slice (which is unfortunate). The pizza was dry, lacked some sort of sauce, and it was burned. I expected a white sauce because all the white pizzas I have had in the past had white sauce but I was wrong. I ate half the pizza, mostly scraping the top because the bottom was burned. FYI, if you want water you have to buy the $4 water, they don't offer the free tap water. My friends liked their food but theirs weren't burned. I felt this place was overpriced and you can get better pizza elsewhere. Plus, burned pizza should never be served. It smelled burnt, so they...
