Il Verdi means "The Greens" in Italian, and their primary goal seems to be to separate you from your green...
I was SO excited to try this restaurant (it was the only new restaurant we made reservations for in advance of our trip), and they let me down completely.
The Service: When we first arrived, we were a little early for our reservation, so we sat at the bar for a drink. The bartender was rude to the point that the hostess (who witnessed it) apologized to us... Still, people have bad days so we let this go. I'm not one to make a big deal about something until I'm really pushed to that point...
The hostess and our waiter were both exceptionally nice, professional, and attentive. So were the staff helping with the plates.
I'll get to the food in a moment, but as far as the service is concerned, we were happy with everything until the bill came to the table.
They were surcharging our drinks (by double) for a "Rocks Upsell" despite the fact that the drinks were not straight on the rocks drinks, they were mixed drinks... When we questioned this, our waiter told us that "this is how they're told to put things in"...?
Then the feature entree, that is clearly listed on our check as an $85 Entree Feature" had a price tag of $155...?? When we questioned this, the waiter told us "that's how our computer system does things"...??
Neither seemed acceptable in the slightest to me, for obvious reasons, so I politely explained my issue and that we felt like we were being ripped off because the actual price of both of these items were listed clearly on the check before they added some mysterious surcharge.
Our waiter said that they couldn't do anything to correct the overcharge and offered to have the manager come over and told us SHE would be right over. At this point I'm still expecting someone to notice and fix the mistake...
Instead, another man came over and started arguing with us and told us that the price is the price and we had to just pay it... Being confused, since that's exactly what I was trying to do, and not appreciating the tact or the way Il Verdi does business, I had to argue that I was happy to pay the actual price, to which this man actually scoffed in my face...
Ultimately they corrected these overcharges after a lengthy, and unnecessary, debate in the dining room (after our argument and several internal meetings they made me wait through) and I paid the bill and left.
We never spoke with the actual manager.
I would NOT go back to IL Verdi and I would recommend that anyone that does really watch your bill for this type of shenanigans.
The Food: As for the food... Separate from the service issues, we thought much of the food was OK.
The lobster in the Lobster Cocktail was overcooked, but had good flavor and the cocktail sauce had a nice zing.
The real standout was the Crostini Primavera, which was outstanding. Every topping was delicious and they all paired very well together. This is an antpasti that I would recommend to anyone. The only complaint I would have is that there wasn't enough bread for the delicious toppings!
For dinner we had Lobster Ravioli, which was prepared well, but we felt the sauce was lacking something. I think this dish needed something to cut through the richness, and also more seasoning to the sauce itself.
The steak was well seasoned, but very heavily charred. If you like a lot of char on your steaks, you'll probably love this, but it was a bit much for me.
The Location: Il Verdi is in a great location at The Tropicana with a view of the ocean. The restaurant itself is decorated...
Read moreWe went to Atlantic City with my parents for a quick weekend trip. We stayed at The Tropicana & had dinner at Il Verdi. Man o' man, it did NOT dissappoint!! Their new location is perfect & so well done. It's very inviting, it has beach views, the ambience is very comfortable. There was nothing wrong with their old location, but the new one is definitely elevated. The food was 100% on point. Between the 4 of us we had... Shrimp Cocktail, which was well prepared and the shrimp were a generous size. Caprese, which was also beautifully presented, super fresh, and delicious! Ceasar Salad which, again, was very fresh, well done, and delicious. 3 orders of the Filet Mignon, which were perfectly cooked to order and tasted absolutely fantastic. Bone-in Ribeye, which was HUGE and packed a punch of flavor that was just as big. Definitely a winner! Creamed spinach, which was also delicious. Fingerling Potatoes were dry and possibly overdone but that wasn't going to ruin our meal. They had several tasty looking dessert options on the menu. Unfortunately, we were too stuffed to try any of them. Next time, and there most definitely will be a next time, I will same some room to try one. The only negative is our waiter took the "wait" part of their title to heart. He was great when he was at the table. Very knowledgable about the menu and super pleasant. We liked him, but there were long stretches where we didn't see him at all. Getting the check, then waiting for him to come back for it, then, again to bring us the receipt to sign, took longer than it took us to eat our food. Bottom line, Tropicana has more food choices than enough, Il Verdi should not be overlooked. It is a top of the list...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Il Verdi Restaurant in Tropicana, Atlantic City, and it was a delightful experience. Despite the bustling atmosphere, we were graciously accommodated by Ricky, the wonderful friendly host, even without a reservation, and were seated at a lovely table with a stunning view of the sea.
The moonlit beach and rhythmic waves added a magical touch to the evening, making it a picturesque backdrop for our dining experience. Our server, Barbara, radiated warmth and hospitality, and her 25+ years of experience shone through as she made us feel genuinely welcome.
Andres the busser was also very attentive, quickly clearing the plates and topping off our glasses of water.
The appetizers were a culinary delight. The Caprese salad was a burst of freshness, with vibrant tomatoes and creamy mozzarella perfectly complemented by the basil and balsamic glaze. The Crab Cake Appetizer was equally impressive, featuring succulent crab meat and a flavorful blend of spices.
Moving on to the mains, the Gnocchi was a revelation of cheesy goodness, each bite exploding with flavor. The Bolognese pasta was a meat lover's dream, with the rich sauce clinging perfectly to the freshly made pasta. The pairing of an Aperol Spritz and a selection of fresh pints of beer elevated the dining experience.
In conclusion, Il Verdi provided a wonderful and memorable evening. From the welcoming atmosphere and breathtaking views to the scrumptious appetizers and flavorful mains, every aspect of our visit was exceptional. I highly recommend Il Verdi for a delightful dining experience in...
