My wife and I had dinner at Olon for the first time. The decor is not as elegant as expected. We were seated at a fairly small table, the server was there quickly to take our drink order. We both had a extra dry martini which was good. We were served small bread buns, not sure what they were called, they were fresh and tasty and they were served with a pepper jam, a little light on flavor. The waiter was polite and helped with the order. My wife had the Salmon and I had the filet Mignon. We both had shrimp cocktail. The shrimp were extra large, nice and firm with a good taste. It came with an ordinary sauce and one that was a little on the spicy side, both were good. When dinner came the filet was prepared as ordered, medium rear, with Asparagus and mashed potato's. The filet was over marinated, it had no fiber texture, it fell apart in my mouth and lacked a taste that would be expected from a good grade of beef. The sauce was lacking in flavor also. The Asparagus was perfect, large, firm yet tender and great flavor. The mashed potato's were to firm and slightly on the dry side, was going to offer to have my wife go into the kitchen and show how to make a smooth and buttery mashed potato. My wife had the Salmon and after having a taste I realized I made a mistake and should have ordered the Salmon. It has a crispy crust and the inside was moist with a sensational flavor. For desert we both had a Chocolate moose, I am not sure that is exactly what it was yet I can say it was fantastic, what great dark chocolate flavor, just right in the sweetness. We both had coffee, I had an espresso and my wife had a Cappuccino. The espresso was fair, had a much better one in another restaurant in the Casino. I am not sure we will go back, the over all experience is not worth...
Read moreCame for happy hour and I must say...it wasn't so happy. The atmosphere is great. Really cool. But it pretty much ends there. Service was very poor. We first wanted to sit in the cozy seats at the bar but after 10 minutes we still had yet to be visited by the bartender or waitress. Why have the cozy chairs in the bar if you aren't going to serve them. We moved to the bar and were immediately greeted by the bartender. That's great. Orders drinks and they didn't have one beer that was listed so my husband switched beer choices and I ordered the roja sangria. The sangria was overly sweet. Tasted like cranberry juice. My husband liked his beer. We ordered the chicken antichucho and the cheese and chicken empanadas. Was going to order the guamcomole but shocker they didn't have that either. Or we could order the dinner menu guac for $9. Ugh very annoying. The food was very good. Maybe a tad too salty but that would just be me being picky. Overall, food is decent but bar...
Read moreWe have dined at Olon many times and it has always been an enjoyable experience. But this past Saturday night was a totally different story. Ordered shrimp skewers, Branzino and Chilean Sea Bass. The skewers were brought out and right behind them were our dinners, which the server ran back with as soon as he realized the mistake. We just ate the last skewer and our dinners we’re placed on the table. That not being bad enough, the sea bass was a cold flat piece of fish about 1/4” high, and tasteless. Definitely not the nice thick fluffy piece of fish you would expect for $45.00. In all fairness, the management realized the mistake of the food coming out all at once and could not do enough for us, but the damage was done, my wife ate her dinner alone while I waited for mine. So it seems Jose Garces name has become just that, a name to charge a higher price for average food. It’s too bad, “Olan” started good, but has seemed to gone in the...
