Some mornings just stick with you. I walked into Backporch Coffee Roasters craving something different, and left genuinely impressed. The vibe here is modern and minimal — clean lines, local art on the walls, airy space that feels both calm and alive.
I ordered a 16 oz matcha latte and a honey-lavender latte (because why pick just one?). Total came out to about $12.25 each for the largest size. Yep, a little pricier than your corner coffee spot, but honestly worth it. Both drinks were smooth and balanced — the matcha was creamy, not bitter at all, while the lavender latte had that perfect floral hint without overpowering the coffee. Bonus: the latte art heart on top was simple but done with care, which tells you a lot about the barista.
And speaking of service — the barista was the highlight. Friendly, knowledgeable, and quick to suggest a roast I wouldn’t have noticed otherwise. That level of confidence and genuine warmth elevates the entire experience.
Now, a small caveat: there’s no restroom inside. They’ll give you a code for the one just behind the wall — super clean and convenient once you know, but still something to keep in mind if you’re planning to hang out.
Overall? 5 stars, easy. Pricey, sure, but you’re paying for quality, atmosphere, and people who care. If I could give 6 stars for service, I would. I’ll be...

Maybe I caught them on a bad day or my expectations were too high. Generally when I see coffee shops selling mid-high end home coffee gear or serving multiple single origin light roasts, I expect that they will be serving high quality filter and espresso but this was not the case.
Every drink served to my group was under extracted (sour tasting) and even the less knowledgeable coffee drinkers in our group noted this. The coffee had potential but was not being extracted properly due to the rush, lack of training, or lack of care.
I observed baristas not weighing their dose and carelessly auto-tamping the grounds. I was discouraged by the lack to attention to detail.
I did come during busy hours, but they had only 2 staff members on a Sunday morning with a line out the door. I would also rather wait for good coffee than get bad coffee fast.
I would recommend a skip on this coffee shop since there are other shops with better coffee, less people, and shorter waits.
If you are looking to purchase home brewing gear, you can purchase here, supporting a local business while getting solid products from larger companies like Fellow, Technivorm, Ratio, and Baratza. You also skip...
Read moreLike everything about this place except, unfortunately, the coffee. It’s not bad, it just isn’t anything special and there are many other places in the area with better coffee. Also I didn’t realize until I already drank half a cup that they had two choices of drip coffee. The person who took my order never offered a choice; she just poured whatever she felt like pouring. They had a medium and a light roast, but I don’t know which they gave me. Normally I like medium and light roasts because they are more nuanced than dark roast. But whatever I had just seemed weak. Although the coffee got better as it cooled down as it was super hot when served making it...
