Initially were very excited to dine here as we have been regulars to this restaurant for over 6 years. We sat down and to our surprise the menu had completely changed and was incredibly difficult to read and understand what things were, example (appetizers, entrees, and sushi). My party decided to get an order of drinks and some edamame and an order of spicy tuna crispy rice which was recommended to us. After analyzing the menu more we had noticed that all of there best selling dishes were no longer on the menu and it had been completely redone which is fine, restaurants and there menus can change but none of the items on there menu were even remotely similar to what the restaurant had been serving for years prior. We were celebrating a birthday and our celebrate was not interested in the menu after seeing it and he has been a regular of this restaurant for over 6 years and raved and recommended the restaurant to people because of there amazing menu. Our party then decided we would finish our drinks and have the edamame and tuna crispy rice and get our check and dine somewhere else. Well when we asked our server for the check she brought it over and they had added a large party gratuity of 22% to our bill when our party was 4 adults and 2 young children ages 2 and 4, the children did not eat anything only had a cranberry juice split between them. I have personally worked in many high end restaurants and also attended the top culinary school in the world and have never witnessed a restaurant charge a large party gratuity to 4 adults and two young children. If our service while being there was great the 22% tip would have been given naturally but for the 15-30 minutes we were in the restaurant the service did not meet anywhere near a 22% tip. I think it should be made very aware to people bringing there children out to eat that they are going to have to pay a large party gratuity for their meal even though they have young children who do not count as adults in a party. Very sad to say my party and I will not be...
Read moreI had to write a review on this place. Our family of five was visiting Oregon for the first time and we were craving sushi. As my husband and I started researching reviews on all the places, we started coming to the realization that we were probably going to be settling for some very mediocre sushi. One place that had great reviews was a food truck, another one specialized in conveyer belt sushi (🤢), and another required reservations and a $10 deposit per person just to make a reservation. Somehow we found Five Fusion and starting reading reviews and looking at pictures posted by other diners.
It was a Wednesday night and we called and got a reservation no problem. The bottom floor was fully reserved but they got us a great table on the second level for 5:30pm. We wanted an earlier time since we were bringing our toddler along with us. When we walked in we were shocked at how beautiful the restaurant was. It had a rectangle of water that travels the length of the entire ceiling that looks so cool from the bottom and upper level. The servers/hosts were all so professional and kind, our waters were never empty and empty plates were cleared so promptly. Most importantly, the sushi was seriously some of the best sushi we've ever had. My husband and 12 year old shared a double order of oysters which they loved. We ordered about 7 rolls and 5 orders of nigiri and every single roll was beautiful and delicious. The fish was incredibly fresh. Even our toddler gobbled up two plates of sliced avocado, some tofu cubes and all of his miso from his sippy cup lol.
Seriously, we can't recommend this place enough. We paid a lot but we ordered a lot and it was my husabnd's birthday so perfect occasion. Next time we visit Bend we know exactly where we will be dining. Big thanks to this restaurant and the staff for an amazing dining experience on our last night of...
Read moreWhere do I even start. This was probably one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had at a restaurant. When we arrived we were told that the main dining room had been booked for the evening however the patio had first come first serve seating, this wasn’t a problem and we opted to wait for a table. Upon entering the patio we were told by the server/host that there was an available table but that it was missing a chair and that he’d go grab one for us. We said okay and continued to wait for 20-30 mins for the chair and a server to take our order meanwhile the tables around us were being served on. I eventually deduced that we had to walk up and order our food from the host stand which was odd because others were ordering from their table. I also politely reminded the server that I still needed a chair and he again told me he’d grab me one. After another 15mins our food finally came out, before our silverware and before I’d been brought a chair after requesting another server to bring a chair she did so promptly. At this point I then proceeded to watch tables that were seated after us actually being waited upon. I’m not sure why we weren’t treated the same as the other tables but I’m left with the impression that it was because my girlfriend was the only person of color there. We also got a vibe of classism. All of this for some subpar sushi that’s comparable to gas station sushi. Would...
