Let me start by saying the food has always been 5 star quality in my opinion. Their elk burgers are always juicy, just a little pink on the inside (giggity) and very very tasty. While some reviews point out that the place looks outdated and a bit rundown, I say it has an old pub feel that makes it feel like home. The fact that it is veteran owned is a big plus, and its awesome to see all the signatures on the walls from military members from many different locations. This most recent trip is my 4th or 5th visit, and it happened to be on Fathers Day. My pops loves their elk burgers even more than I do, and so it was our choice for Fathers Day lunch. Mind you we drive 45 minutes each way to eat here. We ordered drinks straight away and then put in our orders shortly after. We ordered two appetizers and 3 burgers with fries. We asked for the appetizers to come out before our burgers, and the waitress acknowledged. About 30 minutes into the wait, my wife asks our waitress about our food, and the waitress asked if we had put in our orders yet... Forty-five minutes later my burger comes out, still no appetizers in sight. The waitress says they only have one cook so its taking longer??? Well that explains it, right? There were less than 10 people in the restaurant at the time we placed our order. There were no attempts at letting us know about the delay, or why. No apologies, and in fact the waitress became awkward and standoffish after being questioned about the issues. I stood waiting to ask for a to go box for my dad and the check as she and what I'm guessing to be the manager walked past several times. Oh, and lets not forget that in the hour and a half or so that we were there, we never did get the water we asked for. I want to continue to give them my patronage, but something needs to be done about the staff, and I don't mean the lack of it. The quality of the food and atmosphere was drastically overshadowed by the incompetence and lack of...
Read moreI’ve been here many times over the years and it runs the gamut from “not great” to “just fine.” The people working usually seem nice enough but don’t really care about being on top of service. That’s generally okay with me. It’s an acceptable place to watch a game and sometimes get your drink refilled, if you’re lucky.
I’ve only eaten at Double Tap twice. The first time, about a year ago, it was just a standard pub burger. Nothing bad at all, but nothing exciting. That’s fine.
Tonight I got the breakfast burger and I knew it would be a bit messy because of the egg. But when I picked it up, both the top and bottom buns were so slimy (before I even broke the yoke) that I pretty much lost my appetite. I was starving so I took a couple of bites anyway. And somehow they managed to serve me a mostly raw smash burger. Some people might like that but I didn’t care for it.
I’ll come back here for a drink again, probably, but the food just isn’t for me.
Definitely not the worst bar in Boise, but they could do...
Read moreI have been to Double Tap countless times at this point. I have almost been exclusively served by Emmy. I actually can't remember a time when she WASNT serving my table. And my experience with her at Double Tap had kept me coming back.
The food? fantastic. worth the wait on the burgers. 10/10 delicious, the fries i do enjoy but could be crispier but nothing to truly complain about.
The drinks selection? top notch. beer and cocktails will make everyone happy and i ha e never been disappointed by my choices.
atmosphere? cozy. i feel like i'm walking into the Good Times or Cheers bar every time i walk in.
the service? again, fantastic. emmy is an angel and needs a raise. it feels like she is single handedly running that place and doing a great job at it.
My ONLY gripe, is that i wish that were open early and late for EPL soccer games and were airing women's soccer (and other sports) more often. if that was the case i would be here way more regularly.
everything else makes this place one of my...
