I have mixed feelings about this place. First, I have to admit that I had tried the fruit bowl a couple of times and I thought it was so delicious! It felt like I was eating superfood and it tasted very fresh. I asked my friend to stop and pick up two fruit bowls for my roommate and I. He brought the two fruit bowls and one fruit bowl looked great, but the other fruit bowl didn't look like a fruit bowl - it actually looked like a tan colored smoothie with a little bit of oatmeal and 4-5 small ipieces of fruit. Frankly, it looked like watered-down applesauce. It was the Acai Mango bowl, but it think it was actually a smoothie. We were charged for two fruit bowls, which, with taxes and the automatic gratuity, came to $27.51 total. (I'm sorry, but that is just too much money for a smoothie.) So, I asked my friend (who goes there often) if it was supposed to look the way it did and he said, "No, it looks like she overblended it or thought she was making a smoothie. It you take it back, I'm sure they'll replace it." So I thought, "Great! Because I liked what I had before and the other bowl we got." I went down there and I talked to the employees (3 were there) and I told them about my friend stopping by to pick up two fruit bowls and one was great, but the other was not. And I showed her the rest (80%) of the container and what it looked like. The young lady didn't stop to look at what it looked like, instead she focused in the receipt I brought and said, "It's been 3 hours since you got it!" I said, "And . . . What difference does that make?" She said, "Well, it looks like you melted it." (Melted it? Since when does fruit melt?) I told her, "It looks the same as when it was bought. It wasn't frozen. How can it melt?" She reiterated, "It's been 3 hours since then." I said, "So, you aren't going to make it right then?" She didn't answer and said it had been 3 hours. I left - mad. I thought about it later- she acted like I was trying to get her to replace the money I spent, but I just wanted what I had ordered. I would have been perfectly happy if they gave me a fruit bowl like the other one we got that day. I told her the bowls didn't even look like each other - at all! One was all cut up fruit, and delicious. The other one looked so unappealing compared to it - it looked like slop. It wasn't a fruit bowl - it was fruit blended up with a couple pieces of fruit thrown in. I ate all the fruit that was in there in order to "give it a chance". I took what was left with me to Nekter and there was at least 80% of the container left and not one piece...
Read moreFull disclosure, I'm a huge fan of açaí bowls from the get go. The açaí bowls here don't disappoint, though, and they deliver exactly what I'd expect, with delicious fresh fruit.
I appreciate the spin on the toppings and love the blue vanilla cashew drizzle on the Açaí Superfood Bowl. My wife loves the PB&J Bowl with almond butter and a Greenie Up, and the Açaí Banana Berry is our second go-to, and it's pretty close to your classic açaí bowl.
I've tried a couple of their smoothies as well, but I'm an açaí bowl junkie...
